I absolutely love my job. But there is just one thing that sometimes makes me want to pull my hair out.. Relying on other people.
A good portion of my job includes writing psychoeducational reports. These reports need to include information from teachers. Thus, I have to rely on teachers to complete paperwork in a timely manner in order for me to include it in the reports.
I just had to talk to my principal about a teacher who has yet to turn in paperwork for a report that is due tomorrow. I handed the paperwork out two months ago- more than enough time to complete a rating scale, two brief checklists, and an overview of the student’s perfomance thus far. I sent a reminder email after a month. Another email a week after that. Spoke with the teacher in person two weeks ago to ask if he needed new copies of the paperwork, to which he replied “no, I have it, I just have to fill it out”. I sent an email to him last week reminding him. And sent a final email on Monday requesting that the paperwork be turned in by the end of the day Wednesday. Today is Thursday for those not in the know.
The principal called the teacher down to his office and is going to speak with him about the matter. I feel like a tattletale, but what the heck was I supposed to do? I have to have this information in order for my reports to be compliant with state guidelines.
Looks like I’ll be taking work home with me tonight in order to finish the report for the 8am meeting tomorrow. Thanks, guy.
What’s the worst part about your job?

MichiganGirl24: My loathsome co-worker. I despise every fiber of his being and it literally pains me to be in the same vicinity as him. Unfortunately, I have to work directly with him every single day, so there really is no way around it. Fortunately, I’m leaving to go back to grad school in just over a month, so my time with him is ending!
I actually really love my job, and if it wasn’t for him, I’d be super sad to leave.

I work in a hospital and the worst part of my job, by far, is dealing with billing and insurance companies! It’s such a freaking madhouse and nobody can tell you how things work or what will happen before it happens (including the freaking VPs of billing!). It’s just way to complicated and contorted. Blah.

annb9: I also have a coworker who I really am not fond of. Fortunately, though, I don’t have to see much of her!
Congrats on grad school!

JenGirl: Oh I bet that’s awful!
I used to work at hearing and speech clinic and I remember our billing specialist wanting to pull her hair out from time to time because the insurance was such a mess!

Sidenote: I just remembered we’re having FI’s friend over for dinner tonight since he’s moving away in a couple of weeks. FML.

The worst part about my job is one of my coworkers. Every single day he approaches me with ‘you really need to learn how to cook this’ or ‘do you have a mixer? you need to get one so you can make blah blah blah’ and ‘a good wife is a good cook.’ It’s really abnoxious.

MichiganGirl24: I have the opposite problem you have… teachers, school psychologists forget to include me in their initial planning and then ask me to file a report/test a student/give them information 6 hours before a meeting. I’m an SLP in the school districts.

MichiganGirl24: My supervisor’s!! They are very condescending and rude. One came in my office yesterday, asked me a question, and in the middle of me answering her she just up and left! I was talking for a few seconds before I looked up and realized she wasn’t evne there!
my direct supervisor is a little old-school and seems to think since he’s an attorney he knows all… I’ll point out mistakes to him in paperwork or fees, he’ll poo poo me and tell me I don’t know what I’m talkign about he’s been doing this for 30 years and he thinks he knows what he’s doing thank you very much. Come to find out I was right, he was wrong, and since he wouldn’t listen to me said mistake now created 10X more work to fix…
Another suprvisor straight up asked me one day why I couldn’t be like this previous assistant (i’m not even his assistant here) who ‘was so amazing, she could find anything I was looking for at the drop of a hat, and would wipe my ass too’
They don’t clean up after themselves, my direct supervisor has been extremely forgetful the past year and either thinks he told me to do something whihc he never did, or keeps changing policies without letting anyone know then berate you for not following the policy only he knows about…
AND finally, communication here is horrible. You would think a bunch of attorneys would be good at communication, but no, not even close….

The school I’m in (and I’m still interning right now, so all of this stuff could change depending on where I get an actual job) is really great about including the SLP!
I work in a very small school district, so teachers never hesitate to refer kids who they think are having issues because they notice them right away. Or the kids are identified upon registering for kindergarten.
Sorry your school/district isn’t the most cooperative!

BeckyS0: I think poor communication has to be one of the worst things imaginable in the work environment.
The preschool in my district is TERRIBLE at communicating with the primary school. We’re always finding out about meetings a few days ahead of time and we’re expected to complete reports (that should take weeks to complete if done correctly) in just a few days. Drives me crazy!

annb9: I have this problem as well, with my coworker. He and I are the only two people in our office, and he is the most irritating man on the planet. I loathe him. I may end up murdering him with my stapler.

My job has cycles and when I’m in the down time of the cycle, it can get prettyyyyy boring. Luckily I have awesome coworkers who keep me sane!

I love my actual job and have no complaints. I’ve been in similar roles at other companies and always felt positive about what I do. However, there’s one bitch I work with currently who I just HATE. She is my only complaint. She represents what I hate about life, not just work, lol.

The hours. Old school company 8:00am-5:00pm – 5:00 STRICT. AND I work in a major city, so getting out of the city, at 5:00PM is the pits.
And for being a professional job, the vacation time also sucks.
