I have seen this show a few times, but its been a while. From what I remember, it was not too much of a "crazy bridezilla" kind of show. I think the planner worked with the couple in the ones I saw, rather than coming in and taking over- but I do remember one episode where the bride and the planner had a few tense moments due to disagreements/ misunderstandings (which I suppose could happen anyplace, but may happen more easily on a TV show). I don't remember any competitions, though. Have you tried finding clips on youtube?
Thanks! I looked for episodes on a lot of the 'less-than-perfectly-legal' websites but never thought of youtube. There are a TON of clips, which I'll have to watch.
I'm glad they don't paint the bride as an irrational beast. This might be worth it, hm.
hulu.com has some clips, but no full episodes. I just checked for you!
I kind of feel like it more or less follows the planners as they deal with the brde & groom & overcome whatever obstacles are put up. I feel like it's one of the wedding shows that doesn't necessarily paint the bride to be a crazy . . .unless the bride is a crazy!
it's pretty much just the planner helping the brides plan the wedding, nothing like bridezilla, and it seems like you get imput on everything you want. the planner is just helping to show you options and then you get to pick. they would film the entire wedding, as that's what the viewers want to see. i think the competitions are new... i've only seen one of them. if you and your fi disagree on something they have you do things and whoever wins gets that thing, you try to win the venue, decor, food, etc. that of course would only work if you two have different ideas for the wedding.
Like all reality television shows, they show the moments that make the most interesting story for viewers. You've mentioned before that you don't want your photographer to blog your wedding because you feel like it would be an invasion of your privacy. If that's true, I think you would find this VERY invasive. The film crew would be at your entire ceremony and at least part of your reception. However, if your main concern is not having full control, I think you'll be okay. From the episodes I've seen, it looks like the planners always do what the bride wants, so you probably won't lose too much, if any, control. IMO, if you're going to be on a wedding television show and you don't want to be portayed as a whacko, this is definitely the best option.
Yeah, it's mostly about the planning aspects of the wedding. They follow two couples each episode, but they don't even get to the weddings until like the last 10 minutes of the show. So they'll talk about trying to find a venue, budget issues if any come up (though they usually keep specific dollar amounts quiet), getting the dress fitted, etc. The planners will have helpful suggestions and stuff, and they like to highlight the more creative aspects of different wedding like if you did feather bouquets or something a little "out there". I've seen a couple episodes where the planner and the bride really disagreed- one wanted crazy rainbow colored centerpieces while the planner wanted her to tone it down and the other bride wanted to wear plain black shoes with her dress and the planner thought it was boring. In both cases the brides got what they wanted.
My only problem with it is they will occasionally remark that something looks "cheap" when really it's just more average. Like this one planner found out that his bride had bought a dress under $1000 (so, not like it was some clearance rack dress from walmart or something, it was still almost $1000!) and he kept making remarks like "Oh, is it made of polyester? Will it fall apart half way through the wedding?" I thought that was pretty uncalled for, but it doesn't seem to happen too often...

Maybe some of you saw the million ads the casting person put out on the bee a bit earlier today about casting for Whose Wedding Is It Anyway. Well, I was considering applying, because frankly as busy students we'd really love it if someone helped us find the best deals on the small details we want in our wedding, and I know my parents would love it if I could defray some of the costs.
But since I have no idea what the show is like and have no access to cable TV (seriously), I'm wondering if you bees have any sense from watching the show how invasive the process is. Do the brides still get the final say on what their wedding is like, or does the planner take over and we're left with a wedding less than our dream? Does an entire film crew stay at your wedding and film the entire thing? That sounds awful. And do they paint all brides as bridezillas like some wedding shows? And finally, what are these on-show "competitions" between me and FI that I read about in the forms they emailed me?
Any help would be appreciated...
