This is a known time for illness, so it doesn’t really surprise me.

Handwashing/hand sanitizer helps.

Yup. One little pill once a day. I haven’t been sick in a year and a half even though my FI and coworkers have been.

In college I took it every single day for 3 years and didnt get sick. Ever. At all. Even when sharing a bed with my FI that had the flu. I could still eat off his fork, drink after him, etc. Nothing. Then I ran out one time and kept forgetting to buy more. A month later I caught a cold one of my friends had, but I started the zinc again and it only lasted 2 days. I swear by it.

@MrsPanda99:  I *totally* felt like I was coming down with a cold two days before our wedding – you know the sort of itchy-nose, sore throat, generally achy pre-illness feeling?  So I started pounding Emergen-Cs and orange juice like a champ and tried to rest (easier said than done…); I guess it worked (or I wasn’t really getting sick) because I felt fine the day of!  That said, stress, poor eating habits, and lack of sleep (guilty on all three counts) can very quickly suppress/override your immune system, so I think the best precaution is to just take care of yourself in the weeks/days prior!

I got sick a week before my wedding, I had a bad cold, and I prayed to not get a cold sore!  I didn’t, and my sickness was over just in time!

I mean, I will be being dragged out drinking for 2 nights before my wedding, so I’m probably not going to be in tip-top shape… so, that’s my excuse.

@MrsPanda99:  I wonder if it’s partly because most people run around like blue-arsed flies in the weeks immediately before the wedding, and then when they finally stop and slow down the week of the wedding, everything catches up with them because they’re so worn out!

My cold was definitely brought on by stress.  But I tried to relax as much as I could, took zinc and Emergen-C, and found this homeopathic remedy that I tried as well.  I didn’t get over the cold in time for the wedding, but at some point around the rehearsal adrenaline took over, and while my nose was still running day-of, I felt fine.  I was so exhausted in the days following, but at that point it didn’t matter.

@MrsPanda99:  I expect a lot of it isn’t just wedding stuff either, though. Like, imagine if you’re off for a two week honeymoon right after your wedding, you’ll be spending the weeks at work beforehand finishing off stuff, or handing it over, so nothing falls to pieces whilst you’re away…

I got sick 2 days before our honeymoon… I think that was worse. I think it was from the stress of the wedding that finally got the best of me a few days after. The wedding is atleast just one day. The honeymoon is a week. Instead our 4k dollar Jamaica trip I barely felt like drinking because I had a sore throat so i just drank juice most of the time, I had to drug myself up on dayquil everyday, and most mornings I would have rathered just stay in bed but DH drug me out to lay on the beach instead. Then DH got really bad sore throat half way through and he ended up going to urgent care first thing in the morning when we got home. We had a great time but I really want to go back when i’m not sick so i can actually enjoy it.

And yes Emergen-C… I have to get more of those actually. they are amazing. They are probably the only thing that actually gave me the energy to move.
