Kids for sure and buy a home those are 2 things that will most likely happen in the next 5 years but probably sooner rather than later. i’ve been in talks with my dad to take over his store when he retires (3 years) we will see!

Lets see. I graduate undergrad May 2012. He graduates law school May 2013. We get married August 2013. I go grad school Fall 2013-either May 2016 or May 2017 (schools with the same program very in length). Then we move back here. I think that covered 5 years, but we also plan on 2 kids starting a couple years after I finish school.

Hm, I’m not sure we have all five planned, but here goes.

Year 1 (this year): Year of fun. Enjoy being married. Pay off all of our credit cards and take a Euro trip.

Year 2: This is the year of savings. We’ll essentially save my salaray. We’ll also start trying this year. Since we have no idea how long it’ll take, the rest sort of depends on when the wee one will arrive.

Year 3: Before the cake comes out of the oven, we’ll move and buy a house in a cheaper area. I’ll stay home.

Year 4: I may have to start working part time, but I’m really hoping to find something flexible (babysitting, dog walking… anything not in an office).

Year 5: Continue being a mom and a happy family. We won’t try for a second until 3 or 4 years after the first. I’m not that young, so we should really get on that πŸ™‚

Hm… I guess I’m in “I want to be a mommy” mode.

Ours is lofty, to say the least. In the following order:

Buy house

Graduate undergrad (me)

Find a job he’s happy with (him)

Start grad school (me)

Start TTC/Have baby

Finish Grad School

Finally get some traveling done,  or pay off cars/student loans.

Not entirely sure of the exact points in time these will happen, but we’ve got a few goals:

Refinance mortgage on the house (in process, woo!)

Pay off all debt minus mortgage and student loans

Put major money into savings

Trip to Europe for a real (albeit delayed) honeymoon

I plan to pass the CPA exam and start a new part of my career

Start trying for a baby only after all of this is accomplished! πŸ™‚

Buy a home, first and foremost.

Mr. Wizard wants to go to grad school and then possibly change to an independent consulting position (in the same field he’s in).

I want to start my own business, something in photography.

Adopt a cat.

Start our own vegetable garden and not have to buy produce from the store anymore.

Great thread topic!

Year 1 (2012): Buy a house ( under contract now), Mr. LK gets a new job with a much shorter commute (my biggest dream!), throw a kickass housewarming party, check-in with our financial advisor to tweak our financial goals, enjoy life

Year 2: Work on the house to make it as eco-friendly as possible, start saving for 5 year anniversary trip, grow DS’s college fund, get a puppy, start a garden, enjoy life

Year 3: Work on the house interior to make it pretty (and learn some DIY skillz along the way), keep growing DS’s college fund, keep saving for the 5 year anniversary trip, maybe go for a promotion at work, pay off my car loan, get some chickens, enjoy life

Year 4: Yep, still working on the house interior, still saving for DS’s college fund and that anniversary trip, probably time to officially step into management role at work, enjoy life

Year 5: Keep working on the house and saving for DS’s college, only 1 more year till that big trip!

I feel like our timeline is still pretty fluid…we know what we want but not necessarily exactly when we want it. Life doesn’t always go according to plan, so I like to think more in the abstract!

Soonest: Enjoy being married, save some money, travel

Followed by: Buy a house, save some more money, advance in our careers

And finally: TTC/have babies πŸ™‚

We’re 26 and 27 right now and not really ready for kids yet–I’m thinking that could be two or three years down the road at this point. We are pretty happy where we are right now, so while I’d like to move toward our goals I’m not in a giant rush to check things off the list.

We haven’t really discussed it in depth. I know we want to have another baby soon after getting married, and we want to save for a house. I’m pretty sure he’d have to pay off his student loans fist, so throw that in there. I’d also like to have my photography business up and running by then. So, I guess, have a baby, buy a house, start my business, pay off his loans.
