My love of baking things. I really need to find another recipient for all the baking I do that is neither my husband's or my stomach!
alcohol. i love me my glasses of wine and i can't drink without munching big time. so i've completely cut it out.
I'm thinking of taking a timeout from drinking as well mrsbee -- how are you finding it in social settings? like another person's wedding perse? I feel like I can do it personally -- but I would just get annoyed with everyone asking if I was pregnant!!
I'm having a hard time letting go of Applebee's honeybbq boneless wings. I am seriously addicted.
Hot wings. Hooter's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Wing Stop...whatever. I can't help myself. They are just too incredibly good. I seriously would be Miss Hot Wings if I were a Bee.
Well, and alcohol. And I know I won't cut alcohol or hot wings completely out of my diet (my friends are just as into beer and wings as me! so not helpful) so I do my best to limit alcohol to the weekends (and maybe 1 day in the week if it's been a rough week) and hot wings as little as possible. Cutting back on eating out has helped with the hot wing addiction, which is helpful.
Other than that, I go to the gym 2x a week, try to do at least 2 DVD workouts (30 day shred, mostly) at home, and try to eat as healthy and responsibly as I can, without beating myself up over it when I slip up. Having said that, I'm planning on kicking it up a notch in the next week and work harder, eat better. We'll see. ^_^
I am absolutly addicted to cape cod sea salt and vinegar chip and baked cheetos! I keep a bag of one or the other in the house at all times! I only eat a few (like 5 chips, seriously!) a day which helps me feel like I am not depriving myself.
I also push myself at the gym really hard on Fridays and Mondays to make up for drinking on the weekends. I have limited beer and other high calorie mixers and try to stick to diet soda or sode water.
Humarock--I guess you can always say you're driving? That usually works for me when I'm out with my friends but am totally broke. I want to have fun, so I go along, but I drive, meaning no money spent on alcohol.
Also works when you don't want to drink at a wedding/bar for calorie reasons too without people eyeing you up and down to see if you're increasing. ^_^
Yeah I think I'll be pulling the "designated driver" card a lot in the coming months, I guess I have to get rid of my little stomach pooch so that no one gets the wrong idea! :)
Chocolate and tea. I am addicted and seriously need to cut back!
So, I've had a really hard time losing weight and I finally got so frustrated that I went to the doctor who gave me the simple advice: avoid white foods (potatos, rice, white bread, gravy, noodles, etc...), eat a ton of veggies and drink water! That first one was super tough at first, but I have lost five pounds in the first nine days and I am still eating as much as before, just different substance! I know that is a lot, but my doctor assures me it is fine!
I had to say goodbye to cookies and chips. *sigh* It was a rough break up, but well worth it.
I just eat too much junk food.
I know that I am capable of getting out of that habit though because the spring semester of my freshman year in college I lost 20 pounds. I wish I were disciplined enough to repeat this now!
I began doing aerobic exercise 5-6 times a week, eating a low-fat, low-sugar, high-fiber diet and cutting out carbonated beverages. Worked like a charm, but it's hard to keep up without a major lifestyle overhaul.
I just got a new job and everyone here LOVES to eat -- there is food here at least three days a week, and my boss takes us out to lunch ALL THE TIME! It's dangerous! I've been making up with it by eating lighter the rest of the time and trying to work out 5-6 days a week.
I put on some weight a couple of years ago when I was going through a rough time and did a lot of "stress eating," combined with not working out as much as I had before. I got tired of not fitting into some of my favorite clothes, so I did Weight Watchers online (because I am busy enough and couldn't imagine adding WW meetings on top of everything else). I can't say enough about the program -- I lost all the weight and though I will occasionally put on a couple of pounds, I have never come anywhere near what I was before doing the program. I think it's realistic because it's "real-world food" and it's fairly easy to follow if you just commit yourself to doing it.
What's my dieting vice? I'd have to say.....food!
And my profound hatred of exercise.
If only I could swap it and love food a bit less and exercise a bit more.

When i'm at a party, I drink water with a twist of lime in a highball glass. It looks like a vodka tonic but only I know it isn't. People leave me alone and don't give me junk for being "no fun" and to "lighten up". And nobody asks you what it is--it's pretty obvious it's either a vodka tonic or gin tonic.
ugh, thai food. there is the most fantastic thai place near my office and once I start thinking about it, its pretty much a guarantee that I am having it for lunch. The noodles and coconut milk kill me!
I'm with several others on the wine. One thing I've found is that cutting wine out for about 2 weeks totally changed how much I drink. I'm not a heavy drinker (previously 3 glasses a week) so I was fairly surprised. But since that period I can barely drink a full glass without feeling it. I still enjoy the taste, but I definitely drink a lot less (which makes it more economical to buy more expensive wine to boot).
I, too, have limited my consumption of wine. We drink it with dinner every night, but I try to have only 4 oz., or one small pour. But my biggest vice is salty chips! Not only does it cause bloat, but fat. Ugh! I need to stop!
I suggest all you ladies buy Hungry Girl. I live by all of her rules and they have helped so much. I recently dropped about 25 pounds and have about 10-15 more to go....but I now run 3-4 times a week and I suggest ZUMBA....its the best workout for 1 hour of time! Good luck ladies!
Biggest Vices: sweets. rice. alcohol. heck, all carbs.
Best diet: I love South Beach. I've lost 15 lbs so far (which is over 10% of my body weight) and about 6.25 inches all over my body. I also don't generally feel deprived. I did alter it a tiny bit in that I try to make sure I get enough fiber every day and I do eat processed foods (the diet calls for more "natural" food, but I don't have time to cook from scratch very often).
Best workout: 30 Day Shred. I only do this 3 times a week or so and have only been working out for the past few weeks, but I love that it's only 20 minutes!
Alcohol is a big big temptation but I made a deal with myself that if I hardcore dieted monday thru saturday then sunday is my free day to eat whatever I want without guilt. So far the weight is coming off (13 lbs this month!!!) and I don't feel deprived because I know I can have whatever I want. And usually by the time that sunday rolls around I totally over most of my cravings and I am just happy to go to brunch at a nice restaurant where I eat too much and spend the rest of the day in a food coma.
Chocolate! And now that it's Easter season, every time I go to the store, I keep my eyes peeled for Cadbury's Mini Robin's Eggs. I can't help it, I buy a bag and they're all gone the next day.
And once Easter is over, they go on sale, so my Cadbury's Mini Robin's Eggs addiction lasts for well over a month, until l can no longer find them.
One thing that's working for me is that I am in grad school, so I am poor. No more going out for dinner and drinks with friends just because it's sunny or just because it's Wednesday. Cutting back on alcohol helps a whole lot.
My fiance has been baking a lot recently, and it is too hard to resist the temptation of anything fresh out of the oven! I'm a terrible dieter. I run to make up for it.
@ humarockbride I drink seltzer with lime, delicous and no one asks. i once had a friend try my drink when she was drunk and was like "oohh that's good i'm getting one of those.." I ordered her one and she thought it was great lol
I have always had difficulty losing weight, especially by dieting; with the Sonoma Diet i have been able to lose between 12-15lbs! The basic premise is that you have to replace all white-flour with whole grain (which makes going out to eat challenging). I was instantly attracted to it since it was the first diet that doesn't require you to completely cut out alcohol, carbs, etc. I haven't been following it religiously, but have been very happy with the results thus far. I'd really recommend some sort of an exercise regiment too though, you'll see results faster and won't completely back track if you indulge every-so-often.
i'm not dieting for my wedding, just trying to exercise and eat healthy so i'll feel my best on the big day (and beyond!)
but my biggest vices are, by far, bread and chocolate. i really love bread (whole what mostly) and find it really hard not to eat cereal sandwiches, etc. everyday. chocolate is my love and if i could have my way i'd easily eat it a few times a day.
i try to balance this with fruit and veggies - i can have these things only if im also getting lots of produce. its all about moderation and variety, right?
One word: Pasta!
Though if given 5 words, they would be Pasta, Chocolate, Chips, Alcohol, and ...Pasta!
I'm with monalisa670- PASTA.
And those sugar cookies that have the thick, rich frosting on top and they just melt in your mouth...aaaaaagh.
I literally can't have anymore of that stuff anymore because the nurse called me and told me the results of my lab work from last week...my cholesterol is through the roof and I'm pre-diabetic. I'm only 22! I'm only 15 pounds overweight! How is this possible!
So goodbye to my beloved pasta and cookies. :(
chicken wings :(
I broke down and had popeyes for lunch. Horrible. I have dance class tonight and my trainer tomorrow, so hopefully I can work them off.
Hi! ........ well no sweets.... only natural sugars (fruits) eat very low in salt, this is awesome for the abdominal area. no whites like marci 607 mentioned and if you do have then very little. Try to only have white meats and go to the gym to do cardio at least for 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week.
hope this helps! ![]()
My FH and I talked about this last night. I am fine with my weight. He wants to make his body look different. Which he decided means "if you want to see a difference, something has to change"....he's been working out with a weighted vest, which I had for years before meeting himm and now he is using one and loving it. But it is the late night food (he's in kuwait and I am in oregon). He has been able to stop bitting his nails so he's now convinced he can kick his food addiction. Mind you, I love him the way he is. But I understand, obviously, wanting to look and feel your best.
I cut out alcohol when I want to drop a few pounds. I also cut out snacks and try to focus on eating three meals a day, not big meals but stuff that is less than 500 calories per meal. This means replacing the 400 calorie burrito I typically eat each day with a yogurt and a banana, this saves 100 calories. I eat either toast or fiber one pop tarts for breakfast or high fiber toaster waffles. For dinner I opt for a roasted veggie and some kind of protein, typically lentils are they are fat free and low in carbs, high in fiber and folate (which as you think about children you need to make sure you are getting 800 mg). Then i have some fresh fruit with soy yogurt (but if you can eat the real thing dairy is good for you and they find that people that have some dairy every day are able to drop weight a little more quickly - I think it is because it is a good balance between fat, protein and sugar). I also take a multi vitamin. I then try to get an hour of cardio a day, yes, and this is important for heart health not just the shape of my body. You don't need to run though that is my preferred method, but just moving for an hour is better than not all. Thinking about this every time you turn the tv on. Instead of watching it, take that 30 minutes and walk around the block, or when you think about hot wings, what if you had to walk to get them? I live 30 miles from any restuarants and I have on occassion rode my bike into to town and enjoyed a reward.
Best of luck! Let us know what helps.
For me it's pretty much about doing pilates a few times a week, not the stretching calm type of pilates either! I like the burning, body conditioning type of pilates.
Also, eating light and cycling calories. It works best for me and before I knew what I was doing it worked naturally.
Like one day if I ate heavy fatty food, I would just eat super light the next. It really works and I actually burn more calories and lose weight that way.
Soda!!!
I cannot drink diet (yuck!!) so when I do drink soda its full sugar and totally my vice!!
I have a killer sweet tooth. Alcohol too. I get serious munchies when I've drank alcohol!
