DH and I are on a board game kick and could use some ideas of games to put on our Christmas lists. So...what's your favorite board game?
Right now, my current favorites are Yahtzee and Chess.
I love the game of Life, Cranium (not sure if that's only in Canada, but it's an awesome game!), and Scrabble. I'm not sure if these count as board games, but we also love playing cribbage, Phase 10, Skip Bo, and Rummoli.
Trivial Pursuit - I'm a trivia nut. Also love backgammon even though it's not really a board game. For parties; Cranium, Taboo and Battle of the Sexes are really fun. When I was a kid I loved playing Risk and Clue also, probably still would if I had anyone to play them with. In fact sometimes I wanna be a kid again so I could play board games all day.
@crayfish: Those games look awesome! We may need to check them out!
@bakerella: How could I forget Scrabble? I love Scrabble but my husband hates it..Phase 10 is a ton of fun also!
Stratego was always a favorite of mine. Some people also use it as a minigame for Risk -- each move requires a game of Stratego :)
@Treasure43: If you like Phase 10 you'll love SkipBo. There's also a Scrabble card game now but it's not my favourite.
I love Scrabble, but I get super competitive and sometimes even pout when I don't win (don't judge).
@Gemstone: I had forgotten about Scattegories! I love Apples to Apples (we have it) but it's def not a two player game, which is unfortunate :( Sequence looks like fun!
@bakerella: I'm going to check out SkipBo! I've seen it and toyed with buying it and now I think I will.
Cute question! Now I like Scattegories, Scrabble, Taboo, and Trivial Pursuit. When I was a kid I loved Monopoly, Sorry, and Life.
There is a game called Quelf that is awesome for parties.
I LOVE the new monopoly! I am a horrible speller but I love scrabble too.
My husband and I love to play Scrabble!
We also play Monopoly and Clue.
@meliss: I bought Clue last year (didn't have mine from when I was a kid anymore) because my husband hadn't played before. We played and I kicked his butt and it reminded me of being 10 yrs old again. That was my favorite game when I was little! :)
@SnuckyFox: Haha I get competitive in Scrabble too but whenever I lose I play the "well it is my second language, I'm not expected to be that good at it" card.
settlers! life was always a lot of fun cause we'd always name our spouses and kids in the car! lol.
I LOVE board/party/card games. Most of my favorites have been listed but I will mention them again. I love for Party: Hit or Miss, Taboo, Things, and apples to apples. Card: Phase 10, Uno Board: Sorry, Clue, Pictionary and Life. I have also played a few of my brothers strategy games and there are a ton of good ones out there. I have a friend who really likes Killer Bunnies as well, it is a card strategy came I think.
Risk, Taboo, Cranium, Scrabble, Clue, Monopoly, Life, Battleship, Boggle, Checkers, Chess, Chinese Checkers, & Rummikub off the top of my head. We have a CLOSET full of board games, it was what we asked for our first Christmas together!
Trivial Pursuit! And Settlers of Catan! And Apples to Apples! And Cranium! I love them!
OOoh!
I love: Scrabble, Settlers of Cattan, Puerto Rico, Zooloretto, Land Grab and International Oilman.
Those last two may not in production anymore, but they are a family favourite in my house. I managed to find a used but mint condition Land Grab online for my dad for Christmas last year and my entire family was SO happy that we had it to play again :)
Cranium is my all-time favorite! Scene It? and Trivial Pursuit also rock!
Trivial Pursuit, The Game of Life, Othello, Stratego, and does Uno count??
@Gemstone: OMG love all of those!
I really like Blokus Trigon and Clue Mystery Caper has always been one of my favs.
Hey did any of you ladies play Mall Madness???
Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico, and Ticket to Ride!
And when DH and I aren't being board game snobs, Sequence, Phase 10, and Rummikub are also awesome.
I love games, but a super fave for us is Catchphrase!! When my bestie and I are on the same team, we kick but. FI is terrible at it though! lol!
Definitely Cranium! Its only downside is that it's hard to get the right group of people together to play it. I also really like Scrabble. I haven't played too many other "modern" games. Chutes and Ladders was a blast when I was a kid though. I'll have to check some of these out.
I actually asked for board games for my birthday as we just moved to a small town without a whole lot to do once it gets cold and dark out and didn't get a single one! Maybe I'll have better luck for Christmas although I'm about to break down and buy some myself!
@divergirl: Mall Madness!! Yes! I felt so cool playing that because you got to play with credit cards :) lol I didn't have it but my friend did. We played it all the time in her basement.
@Violet Violet: Uno counts! We have Uno attack and love it! Something about pushing the button and not knowing how many cards (if any) will come out is awesome! We just got Othello and are liking it!
@divergirl: Ahhh! I loved Mall Madness and Dream Phone!
@Mrs.KMM: Ticket to Ride is fun too! I played it with some kids I was babysitting but I can see my husband and I enjoying it!
@divergirl: My sister and I loved Mall Madness. I remember we wanted it so bad because of the commercial and made my parents shop around all over until we found it lol.
I love Puerto Rico, Catan, and Agricola (My favorite).
Carcasonne makes me sad...I don't like when other people try to edge in on my farm. That pisses me off.
Apples to Apples can be great when your with a sizeable group of people with great senses of humor.
Yay for SETTLERS of CATAN!
(and Scrabble. And Apples to Apples. I also kinda like Things in a Box.)
All my favourites have been named - huge fan of Cranium, scattergories, taboo and apples to apples.
A game that's a bit different but totally fun is called Bohnanza. It's a strategy/bargaining card game.
I'm with prettylizy: Catchphrase is the best! (if it counts as a board game). And Apples to Apples.
2 player Blokus, Parcheesi, and Kismet/yahtzee.
I want to find more games that we can play with just the 2 of us when we get snowed in this winter!
DH and I have are very competitive Scrabble players. We both score highly, and it's usually a toss-up as to who wins, usually within only a couple of points. We dabble in Chess sometimes (he's much much much better than me). But for pure enjoyment, we love playing Life. We play it with my sister in law and her boyfriend whenever we're over. Couple bottles of wine, that game becomes so much fun.
