almond chiffon!!!
honestly, I love nut flavored cakes!
hazelnut
I love hazelnut!
hazelnut cake with chocolate ganache (it'd be like nutella!!)
I'm one of those people who likes plain jane flavors (I don't like chocolate, I know I'm weird) so if I were a guest I'd prefer to have white or yellow or something similar. I still think you could have at least one flavor that's not plain though. That being said, it's your wedding and you should have whatever you like. I'm guessing the majority of your guests would like at least 1 of the 2 flavors you have.
Can your cake baker do more than one flavor on your cake? Ours offered to do different layers with different flavors, but we liked chocolate cake with a fudge and raspberry filling the best!
Strawberry and lemon with cream cheese sounds amazing! Go for it! How many tiers are you having? Each one can be a different flavor usually right? So you can do those to and one plain layer even if you wanted to compromise. I think your picks sounds amazing though!
We're having a plain jane cake from a plain jane baker: chocolate.
My favorite is confetti cake, so that is what we're doing the wedding cake! Well, alternating confetti and chocolate tiers because FI's fave is chocolate.
Yum! Plain cake is not much fun -- I usually wave off cake with no thought because the last thing I want is a slice of marble cake. But your flavors sound amazing!!
My favorite cake: carrot! Geez, I guess that kind of is a boring flavor... I'm all about the cream cheese icing.
We're not going with plain jane - if people don't want it they donn't have to eat it! Strawberry lemon cream cheese sounds great!!
Ours was spice cake with apple filling and buttercream icing. It was amazing... and people loved it. Go with what you want!!
The most popular cake flavors I get asked to make: Chocolate & Vanilla. Go figure... It's a crowd pleasing favorite!
Depending on the number of tiers, add 1 layer + the top tier of your fav choices & have the rest "plain jane" style. I usually suggest that brides go w/ the classics on the wedding cake and liven it up on the grooms cake. :)
The worst complaint from customers is when the guests don't go for their specialty cake flavor & barely touch the cake. It breaks my heart & its a gigantic waste of the couples money.
I love lemon cake! But, anything with cream cheese frosting is yummy perfection!
Call me a plain jane, but I've always love the classic white cake, with white frosting. Yum!!
leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemon. :) It doesn't take much to make me happy.
we are doing Marionberry. It is unique to the Pacific Northwest and It makes me happy. Oh with lemon filling.
Chocolate Truffle Grand Marnier. The entire outside (frosting) will be like a soft white/ivory color.
I also want to serve a grooms cake, not sure which flavor!
Go with the fun, unique cake flavors! After all, you can get regular ole cake anywhere! I personally like raspberry-lemon with cream cheese frosting. We're having strawberry cream from a european bakery (and Costco cake, yes, boring, but oh so cheap)....the Whole Foods near me does lots of crazy good cakes like mango though! YUM
I also like a mean red velvet...and carrot cake....oh man, cake, yum. We tasted a delish 4-layer cake for our wedding we passed on. 4 types of chocolatey mousses! The espresso didn't sit well with the FI though.
i actually do not like cake. i for reason never have. Fi like chocolate, white, vanila and marble
I love red velvet, or a vanilla/chocolate layer cake with chocolate and vanilla pudding in between the layers
I love when the cake is outside of the traditional chocolate/vanilla box. In fact, strawberry and lemon are my favorite flavors! I'm getting lemon in my cake, but unfortunately my baker didn't offer strawberry.
We're doing lemon pound cake with strawberry filling. So....I think yours sounds delicious! The thing with lemon is, it kinda looks like regular white cake, but kicked up a notch. I can't eat nuts, so I am always hesitant of chocolate cakes b/c you can't really see the nuts when the cake is dark.
My FMIL said that guests will remember what the cake LOOKS like more than what it tastes like. Unless it tastes like crap (or is dry/crumbly, burnt, etc.), then people will remember that it was gross. But people won't remember that you didn't get a basic flavor cake. Go for the fun flavors!
We'll likely have a very large guest list, so I think we'll end up "supplementing" our regular cake with sheet cakes sliced and served from the kitchen. Basically, we'll have a pretty cake that will serve about half our guests, and then the other half will be served sheet cake, although they'll never know because they won't see it! But what that means is that we can have as many different sheet cakes as we want... this eliminates the difficult decision about what kind to pick!
But, if I had to pick one, it would be some variation of lemon and raspberry or chocolate and raspberry--I love raspberries!

My mom and I are having a disagreement about cake flavors. I want to have strawberry and lemon with cream cheese frosting. We will also be having a chocolate peanut butter grooms cake. My mom thinks that we should go with plain jane flavors. Thoughts?
