Since my fiance is a chef and food writer, we love fresh and local items, especially produce. We hit up the local shops often (FI actually works for one). We are not morning people, so we rarely make it to a Farmers’ Market though. But this weekend we’re excited because we’re planning to get up and go check it out.
So what’s your favorite item to get from/check out at the farmers’ market?
When we buy local produce, we love tomatoes, arugula, and peaches.

Tomatoes, peaches, and sweet corn! Mmm. We have a huge farmer’s market by us that I’m dying to check out. Last year I was working every single weekend day (2 jobs) so I never got to go. I loooooove fresh produce!

Ooooh, I love supporting farmer’s markets! My favoriate things to buy are Okanagan peaches and cherries in the summer 🙂 Soooooooooo good!
Not really “farmed” per se, but I also love buying baked goods and granola from the Granola King!

Seattle Farmers Markets are so eclectic and aren’t limited to fresh produce. We often go to the Ballard Farmer’s Market where this guy who fishes in Alaska comes back and sells his fish. We get great Ling Cod from him and wonderful salmon for reasonable prices… and he’s just a really nice guy.
One time we didn’t have enough cash and he *gave* us our fish and told us to just get him next time!
I love developing relationships with the people who grow and raise our food!

Fave items are:
Eggs (totally different tasting than supermarket eggs, even the $$ organic kind)
“Chicken Pie” – homemade, it’s basically just pie crust, chicken, peas and tons of homemade gravy! So good in winter!
Arugula and mixed greens salad mix
Goat cheese – local farm, sometimes they bring the goats too, they are so cute!
Meat – especially sauage

I was a culinary school grad, so I love farmers markets.
I buy a lot of meats there, as well as tomatoes, herbs, etc.

Ha ha! Ok, so this is coming from the opposite side of things but when I worked Farmer’s Markets for my dad there were days where all we would eat was Kettle Corn! (And the cherries/peaches/plums/apricots that we were selling, of course.) Or the tamales at the Boulder FM?! SO delicious!

We have a lot of apple orchards in New England… my favorite thing to get at them are hot and fresh cider donuts! With apples and cinnamon…oh boy!!!!

I miss the Madison farmer’s market on Capitol Square! The capitol building is gorgeous, and it’s such a fun Madison activity. My absolute favorite thing that I miss from that market: hot spicy cheese bread from Stella’s Bakery. Mmmm. Next favorite: huge bag of basil for $1.

Fresh snap peas!!!! They are the best. I get a few pounds of them every week during the summer.

Snap peas and garlic scapes! I’m a little spoiled, though; we have a CSA share which is even easier than going to the farmer’s market. Our first pickup this year is next week and I am so excited for it!

Peaches, hands down. I haven’t been adventurous enough to buy meats yet and I really want to try milk!
