I just got the list of flavors from our baker and they all look so good! She does custom flavors as well, so I'm going to ask her to try one that I've been thinking about {banana cake with brown sugar buttercream} for our tasting, but I'm probably going to use her tried and true recipes for the other two layers {or all three if my recipe doesn't impress!} of the cake. If it matters, the cake will have fondant on the outside. Outside in Florida doesn't exactly scream exposed buttercream to me. The picture is of my inspiration cake. It was also a certain bee's cake as well. Great minds! I love the uneven tiers and the simplicity of the decoration.

So anyway, which flavors appeal to you as a guest?

Oh and I'm allergic to tree nuts, so only one layer is going to have nuts in it.

    Those are some great choices!

This is a little OT, but who are you having do your cake? Just curious because we have a house down there, and my mother is great friends with a lot of people there. :)

Edit: I chose the French Vanilla one!

I picked Red velvet, Irish Cream, and Strawberry. I would have gone for the carrot cake too except for the pineapple filling.

@FiftyFoot~Rhonda Joodi at Confection on the Coast. She's apparently fantastic, but I won't taste her cakes until next month. Everybody from my MU artist to the photographers I've talk with talk about her cakes. Y'all have a house in Seaside or in the general area? We're looking at buying in Seaside after we renew our vows. Can't do both! :)

@SanDiegoAli~Those two plus the banana are my dream cake as of right now. My husband loves red velvet, I love lemon and the banana just sounds great. It's like banana bread, but without nuts. Very Fall-ish. Yummy!

@Ember~Yeah, the pineapple threw me off too. Oh well, it is the beach after all!

Awesome! We started with a house in Seaside, but now have a house about a mile away in Seagrove on Kristi Lane. (It's right where 30a splits). Right now my parents are actually considering  building another house in Grayton. I love all the live oaks there. :)

@Kate, I'm sure the pineapple filling is great but I would pair it with coconut or vanilla cake instead and either of those combos might be good. I've had carrot cake with fruit filling from Costco years ago and it leaves much to be desired compared to regular carrot cake.

A lot of those sound amazing, but I'm most curious about the Grand Marnier butter cake w/ blackberry. How could that NOT be fabulous?

@marigold~ I know! I am really interested in that one but I don't want to get my hopes up since blackberries aren't in season in October are they?

@Ember~They have a pina colada flavor with pineapple filling, but I just can't go there. Too bad, because my husband would love it probably. Oh well, he's getting the red velvet unless it's just horrible! :)

Hm, they might be. I'm not sure where Seaside is, but blackberries can be in season as late as October in my neck of the woods. If not, depends how you (and your baker!) feel about locally-sourced ingredients!

Mmm I voted for Viennese Chocolate w/ buttercream & Lemon Poppyseed. But after reading the comments about the butter cake w/ blackberries, I'm kinda wishing I voted for that! Mmm and italian cream w/ raspberry filling...

Geez, they all sound delicious! You can't go wrong with any of those flavors :)

I'm a big fan of local ingredients and hope that the caterer takes advantage of them as much as possible. Seaside is located on the panhandle of Florida about 30 minutes away from Panama City. But, it's not anything like PC, it's where the filmed The Truman Show. I'm not sure what is in season then, but I'm going to poke around tonight and see. Citrus is obviously a big thing in FL, so I love the idea of lemon and oranges making an appearance in our cake.

I voted.  :-)  If you do the banana, I'd do another one as chocolate (red velvet counts) and then a more basic one.  Are guests able to choose their flavor?  I'd skip on the nuts altogether b/c seems like everyone's allergic anyway.

I've never been to Seaside but my family vacationed there when I was in college and their pictures are spectacular.

I voted Kahlua but seriously, you would not have to twist my arm to get me excited to try ANY of the flavors you listed - and your banana/brown sugar sounds DIVINE.

Bet you a dollar that one turns out so well she'll start offering it as one of her regulars!

Please let us know how it goes!

The banana cake with brown sugar buttercream sounds amazing!  And I love my red velvet cake.  One layer we did for our cake that was our favorite was white wedding cake with a caramel mousse filling.  It was AMAZING!

I'm always a fan of anything with fruit filling/flavors, so I had to go with italian with raspberry and the strawberry cake.. but honestly, all of those flavors sound ridiculously amazing. Mmm.

Yummy...now I'm hungry - and I was a BAD bride and had the mini turtle cheesecake slice after dinner.

All of them sound amazing.  I don't know how I would pick.

And yes, typically there are pecans in Italian Cream...it's my favorite cake...and it got my vote!

Oooo i am drooling on my keyboard! I chose:

Key lime w/ lime curd. I just looooove key lime and lime curd. Yummy. Also the french vanilla mascarpone cheese. Vanilla's always nice and light tasting. I also chose the italian cream with raspberry filling. I will say amaretto/peach was a toss up with the vanilla but i'm a sucker for mascarpone cheese.

That said, I think any of those would be fabulous! If i was PMSing, i'd go for the chocolate mocha kahlua thing.

The key lime is just really striking me as a seaside, sunny, beachy day cake. Mmmmmm. I even like Starbucks' key lime curd crumb cake. Yeah

Ok here are my votes.  I think these two flavors will mesh well!  Plus your nut allergy is taken into consideration.

Btw, I love the cake!  Especially the ranunculus flowers at the bottom.  Will they be real or sugar flowers?

My votes are for the Grand Mariner and blackberry filling (orange and fruit flavors give the nod to FL being a great state for growing fruit and I love Grand mariner! The second flavor I like that I think will go well with the other flavor is the strawberry and creme cheese filling.

I think all these flavors will "marry" well!

Wow, I love the cake and these flavors sound awesome.  My favorites would be: strawberry with cream cheese, French Vanilla cake and the key lime (kind of a nod to Florida).  The Hubs said he would choose the Grand Marnier/blackberry or chocolate pistachio.

Are you going w/the same colors too Kate?  Pretty greyish blue color of the fondant.  I also agree you need fondant in FL!

Here's a giggle.  Last night I was talking to my sis and she suggested Seaside or Alys Beach as two areas she thought lovely for T and I!  lol!  They're headed off to Jamaica today (second time going to Round Hill) for their anniversary trip!

I voted for Viennese Choc. and the Italian creme, but the banana sounds good, too. I thought I wanted Red Velvet, but my taste buds have changed and that cream cheese filling tastes too sweet to me now. We are having white velvet w/ raspberry filling & chocolate with fresh strawberries and whipped cream filling.

I'm tree nut allergic as well (anaphylaxis) so I'm wondering why the heck they have to pair the red velvet with pecan.  Also, I don't know how allergic you are, but for me, I wouldn't even want pecans touching cake I was going to eat!

@Mrs. DG~ I am not extremely allergic, as of right now. I get an itchy, red throat and face. The red velvet layer would be wrapped in fondant and I would ask for two knives to cut it.

@bellenga~ First off, I just figured our your screen name and what it means. LOL Second, y'all should REALLY try Seaside. I love it and it's great for a long couples weekend. It's also great for Spring Break and Summer, because they have a really fun kid's camp that is great for only children. Lil loved it this summer. Our colors are shaping up to be navy and aqua with white and a little apple green for flowers I think.

I have a similar flavor layer in my cake as one you have listed: Carrot cake with grand marnier wash and grand marnier filling. It was AMAZING and I usually dislike carrot cake! I think that the grand marnier is so delicious!  ]

I would choose to try Grand Marnier Butter Cake w/ blackberry filling or Viennese Chocolate w/ chocolate buttercream ... because I'm a chocoholic!

I usually love strawberry ... but I realized that I don't like it in cakes because it's so zangy .. if that's a word. =)
