Might not be vow-inspiration, but I love the quote from When Harry Met Sally
When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible
Hunnybear---GREAT, GREAT movie! AOL (Aw Out Loud, yes I just made that up---but it's accurate!)
My personal favorite::
"Love seeketh not itself to please, nor for itself hath any care, but for another gives its ease, and builds a Heaven in Hell's despair." --William Blake.
Shakespeare's Sonnet 116--I am actually probably going to incorporate it into our invitations. The entire sonnet is lovely, but my favorite line is "Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, nor bends with the remover to remove"
It's kind of long, but I do enjoy this quote :)
"I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who's ever lived: I've loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough."
"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."
-St. Augustine
My favorite love quote of all time! Just figured I would share! :)
long also, but from Le Petit Prince
“You are beautiful, but you are empty,” he went on. “One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose looked just like you– the rose that belongs to me. But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses: because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or ever sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose.
and:
You are always new. The last of your kisses was ever the sweetest. - John Keats
It's probably not great for vow inspiration but I'm surprised it's not been suggested yet;
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return" - Moulin Rouge
One of my favorites is-
"Doubt thou the stars are fire; doubt that the sun doth move; doubt truth to be a liar; but never doubt I love you. I love thee, I love but thee with a love that shall not die. Till the sun grows cold and the stars grow old."
- William Shakespeare
Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired
-Robert Frost
Dont think its vow worthy though!!!
I second Sonnet 116. Some of these other quotes are really beautiful!
Also, this isn't really a quote and its not really deep, but its a line in a sugarland song (take me as i am) that love: Slow to trust but I'm quick to love, I ain't saying I'm perfect but I promise I'm worth it.
We used this one on our STD's:
I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine - Song of Soloman 6:3
Not vow worthy, but there's something about it I really like.
"Love is the only sane and satisfactory answer to the problem of human existence"
-Erich Fromm
Here's my favorite, which we are incorporating into our wedding (its on our website, invitations, etc.)
In that book, which is
My memory...
On the first page
That is the chapter when
I first met you
Appear the words...
Here begins a new life.
Its by Dante Alighieri, from La Vita Nuova
This is one of my many favorites:
"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."
Mignon Mclaughlin, Atlantic (July 1965)
“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
-Dr. Suess
"I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly without complexities or pride. I love you because I know no other way then this. So close that your hand, on my chest, is my hand. So close, that when you close your eyes, I fall asleep."
Patch Adams
FI memorized this quote from the movie cuz it's one of his favorites.....I remember him reciting it to me and thinking how beautiful it was.
@bluebutterfly--that's taken from a pablo neruda sonnet...he writes so beautifully. I wish I or FI spoke Spanish fluently--I would imagine his writing sounds even better in the language in which it was originally written.
@hilsy85...I knew the movie had taken it from somewhere else, but I couldn't recall. thanks for the author!!
I read it in a book and I'm in the middle of tracking it down (so I may be paraphrasing) but:
"Love asks nothing. Love DEMANDS everything."

Looking for some vow-inspiration. Yes, I could google it, but I love your input more!
