I love Thanksgiving, b/c I LOOOOVE food. My favorite dish has to be the bread stuffing my FMIL makes. I finally found the recipe (Betty Crocker) and it is tasty! I'm not huge into turkey, but I do enjoy green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, and mashed potatoes. My fiance is planning on making the turkey this time around and he's testing a new dinner roll recipe (think Logan's or O'Charley's). So what's your favorite dish?
Let me start by saying, I love O'Charley's rolls almost more than I love FI. I am half joking....
I love it all. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey, rolls, brussel sprouts...Mmmm...
Oh this is making me hungry. I LOOOVE food too. My favorite dish is a toss up between the mashed potatoes with gravy and stuffing. Pumpkin pie for dessert with a big dollop of whip cream tops off the evening quit nicely!
@MsJ26: I love pumpkin pie, it is my all time favorite. My fiance loves to make this really sweet and buttery crust--the crust is almost tastier than the filling :)
LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!!!!! Thanksgiving dinner is my favorite!
Love turkey, mashed potatoes, homeade gravy (not the jar stuff..ewwww!), stuffing, my greenbean casserole with the fried onions, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie!!!!!!! Yum!!!!
@Lindsay12.31.2010: I'm not going to judge for loving O'Charley's rolls. I seriously love their rolls more than anything on their menu.
@Jenn23: We're making gravy, but I'm not a huge fan. My Fiance's making homemade cranberry sauce for his sister (a bit too bitter for me). But oh that I love the rest of the stuff! By the way, I hope you're feeling better!
I can't choose. We go to DH's aunt's house every year, and everything on her table is absolutely incredible. Personal favorites-mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and stuffing. And pumpkin pie. Mmm pie.
The only thing I don't like is this oyster stuffing she makes (she makes regular stuffing for me--actually, this year, my IL's froze the leftover stuffing from our wedding last month (Thanksgiving dinner), and are planning on serving it...mmm.... Anyway, it's this oyster/cheese/breadcrumb thing, but oysters make me gag, so after trying a "no thank you" bite my first time there, I won't touch it.
@Mrs Sarah McK: Yeah, I'm not a fan of oysters or seafood in general. I love the bread stuffing, though! SO GOOD.
@beekiss2: That crust sounds delightful!
Has anyone tried a cranberry pie? Very good too with icecream!
@MsJ26: Never tried cranberry pie! My fiance keeps toying with the idea of making a dutch apple pie in addition to the food we're already making!
Ok this is bad but I love the cranberry out of the can that you slice, my family only buys it for me everyone else its the homemade kind.
@MsJ26: I only eat for Thanksgiving and man I think it is so good, I think I will blame my mom! hehehehe
@Rocketdog: We are in agreement :)
@bohemianbailie: I've heard about people loving the canned stuff more, in fact a coworker of mine talked about it extensively.
My gram's recipe for stuffing and gravy. That is all I need. I dont get them the rest of the year. The rest is for the FH
Family recipe for stuffing made with Bell's seasoning and common crackers. It's incredibly plain but incredibly delicious. Soaked in gravy it's even more amazing. I also love turkey and mashed potatoes. Ahhh now I'm starving!
I'm vegetarian, but almost everything at TG except the turkey is (or can be) veggie-friendly! I LOOOVE stuffing, mashed potatoes, apple pie, green beans or asparagus (for some reason we always have one or the other) and homemade bread...drooool.....
LOL, I agree with the PPs on the pumpkin pie! I love it! Besides the turkey, its the one recipe I've worked to perfect.
I'm all about the ham! I don't care for turkey...at all.
I also love the broccoli bake my aunt makes.
Green bean casserole, anything with sweet potatoes, and my grandmother's specialty, Marmee rolls. :)
I over do it on mashed potatoes and bread rolls every year! Turkey, ham, gravy, everything is delish! But I don't like stuffing for whatever reason... not sure what that's about?
Mmm...it is all so good! I love the turkey with fresh cranberry sauce...rustic mashed potatoes with the skins on are the best. I also love the whipped yams, soft homemade rolls, dressing...but my favorite is definitely my dad's pecan pie and my aunt's pumpkin cheesecake!
@brittromance: Ahhhhh, pecan pie! How could I forget the pecan pie! Love that stuff.
Oh, and speaking of desserts, my family makes homemade ice cream every Thanksgiving! So yummy. It's awesome as long as you don't get stuck with ice cream bucket duty, haha.
@Minutiae: Mmm homemade ice cream is the best! I may have to try to make some this year, since we got an ice cream maker as a wedding gift :)
Stuffing!!! Except we had our Thanksgiving last month, so no stuffing for me! I am jealous of you Americans who are having your Thanksgiving next week!!!
I love Thanksgiving food...mainly the sides though! My mom makes an amazing sweet potoato casserole and cranberry Jello thing. Chocolate pecan pie. Pumpkin pie. I'm salivating just thinking about it!!!
Bourbon pumpkin pie, cranberry upsidedown cake and carrots with shallots and onions.
Man... Now I'm hungry.
Turkey, Turkey, Turkey. And my husband's turkey because he puts vegetables in it and his homemade gravy (none of premade crap bleh). With crescent rolls.
Did I mention turkey??
I seriously love it ALL, but to me, it's not Thanksgiving without green bean casserole. It is by far my favorite!
I think that stuffing would come in a close second (and I'm talking cheap, simple stove top or pepperidge farm!).
Can't wait, and can't believe it's only a week away!
I've always loved to mix mashed potatoes, gravy, turkey, noodles and corn together into one big mess on my plate. It's good - trust me! :)
I'm ok with turkey, but it's really all of the only at Thanksgiving sides that I wait for! Stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and (can't believe I've not seen this one yet!) scalloped corn.
And then...pumpkin pie too? No wonder it's my favorite holiday. Like Christmas, but without the shopping.
EDIT: Oops, wrote without reading carefully!. rlsh86 also mentioned corn casserole. Yum!
I'm all about the sides--mashed potatoes! And roasted brussels sprouts w bacon!! YUM
Cornbread dressing and boudian casserole (a combo of boudian rice, cheese, shrimp, and chicken).
I can't read anymore of these! Its torture!!!!
Oh my grandmas stuffing (more of a dressing).. mmmmm =) I swear that recipe is straight from God!
Two big bags of bread, celery, onion, garlic, ummm...other stuff....cant remember and don't care. As long as its on the table at dinner time I'm a happy Missflipflops!
Does anyone make a Next day Thanksgiving Sandwich?? Anyone remember that episode of Friends where someone ate Ross' Thanksgiving sandwhich?? LOL
Ok this is gonna come off as weird BUT.. Does anyone else starve themselves the whole 24 hours before Thanksgiving dinner to be able to get in all the food goodness??
If no one else does then just ignore this and forget I said it. =) lol
