If you could wear any gown silhouette and have it look wonderful on your shape, which would it be? I'd LOVE to be able to wear a sheath or mermaid style dress, but my hourglass shape just didn't look right in ANY of the ones I tried.

    Which is your favorite?

My dress has a dropped waist- which I LOVE, so I voted for that one. BUT- A-line dresses look good on pretty much everyone, so that gets a secret second vote :)

Definitely mermaid...I just love that style. I don't know if I'd look good in one as last time I tried on dresses there was a lot more of me...but I will sure try one on this time...just to see anyways :)

    I'm a fan of the A-line.  Classic!!

PS-I still don't know what the heck a sheath sillouette is...can someone help a sista out with a picture of that???

I voted for sheath - because trumpet wasn't on there.  Trumpet  is between A line and Mermaid.  Love the style (and it's my dress)!

Oops! Didn't think of trumpet! I guess my brain just lumps it together with mermaid!

I LOVE pictures of trumpet dresses, but since that wasn't an option, I picked what my dress is: drop waist!

It is sort of mermaid, but flares more at the hip than at the knees.  It can be a better style than Mermaid for those of us with curves (ME!)

I love the dropped waist look, when it's simple and chic. I never found one that I loved in person (in my budget) though. Plus, I think maybe I have too much booty for a shape like that, haha, so I ended up going with an A-line that I adore.

Mine is a trumpet skirt which is sort of a hybrid cross between a mermaid and an A line. LOVE IT!

I like that the A-line is classic so I went with that as well as a chignon. I know that I will look at my pictures 15 years from now and still be happy with not going the trendy route. :)

Mine is a trumpet which isn't up there! But I think it works on brides who want to create curves as well as on brides who want to accentuate their curves, like me =)

I wanted a drop waist but ended up with a trumpet...Which I think is closer to a mermaid. When I think drop-waist, I think the bodice ends slightly below the natural waistline but your hips are still hidden under a full skirt. My dress flares out mid-thigh so my hips and thighs are out there in all their glory - I hope that's a good thing!

How could trumpet not be an option??  That's why I voted for Other :)  For me, I feel like mermaid dresses are more of a fad.  They're super sexy, but can't hold a light to the classic A-line, which will never go out of style.  But I'm just in looove with a trumpet dress' silhouette... it's like a softer version of the mermaid, made to really show off a woman's shape, but not outrageously tight on the thighs :)

My favorite is Mermaid. I love it because it's sexy, but we are making it modest with a bolero jacket. It was a princess cut/ball gown at first but my aunt is going to alter it into a mermaid. Wish us luck bees!

I would have voted for trumpet. I think it is softer and more feminine than both the A-line and the mermaid.

Anything that shows off the female figure. :) Mermaid and trumpet are at the top of my list.

Since a lot of people seem to bash the trendiness of mermaids, I did a little research and found articles as far back as the 1880s, such as this hilarious one, which talk about them being in fashion:

"There are the thin high-heeled shoes, a constant threat of dislocation to the ankle, and the unsightly red or blue stockings too liberally displayed. Lastly, there are the so-called dresses, intended rather to display than to drape the figure; bodies tightened to an unhealthy pressure, and skirts so attenuated at the knees as to make it next to impossible for the wearer to waddle even at the present fashionable pace, with tails dragging behind that give the poor skewered figures the appearance of mermaids ashore."

They've been around a surprisingly long time! Virtually ALL clothing goes in and out of style. :)

Haha, great find @Minutiae. Apparantly the thin high heels and their ankle dislocating tendencies have prevailed for a long time.
