I was out to lunch yesterday with FI and the waitress stopped while taking our drink order to ask what brand of falsies I was wearing because they looked amazing. She was shocked when I told her I wasn't wearing any, just some L'Oreal mascara on natural lashes. I was extremely flattered!
I'm currently using L'Oreal Voluminous Millionize and it costs about $9 at Walgreens. I ordered Benefit's They're Real! earlier last week because I've been dying to try it but I'm almost hoping I'm not impressed by it so I can keep using my cheap drugstore mascara! I also really like Maybelline's Lash Stilletto Voluptuous.
It got me wondering, what is everyone's favourite mascara?
By far, L'Oreal Telescopic. I used to buy expensive dept store kind, but ditched it once I found this. I already have dark long lashes, but with one coat of that I have WOW lashes.
I love Benefit's They're Real. People ask me if I am wearing fake lashes all of the time. I am obsessed with it.
LOREAL CARBON BLACK IN BLACKEST BLACK. It makes my eyelashes look AMAZING. It's really good at separating the lashes and I can go like 3 days without putting it on if I wanted to because it just STAYS lol. It doesn't flake or clump. I love it and it's like $6 haha. Im all about Loreal.
I love the Victoria's Secret brand "Very Voluptuous" mascara. I also like Covergirl's Lash Blast.
@louisianablue: So what you're saying is I'll be forever buying expensive mascara?
@Brielle: I've heard really good things about Dior Show. If I don't love the Benefit I'll have to try it.
@zippylef: I got a tube of the VS for Christmas. It's better than a lot of mascaras I've tried and I got a good bit of volume but it just didn't give me the length I was hoping for.
Benefit's They're Real.
it is THE BEST mascara I have ever owned! And also, even though it isn't technically water proof it lasts and lasts even if I swim or cry!
It makes my eyelashes look super long and amazing!
I love the Lancome one with the 3d brush, I forget what it's called at the moment but it's probably my favorite ever but I refuse to pay more than $10 regularly for mascara so my other favorite is maybelline falsies. Makes my eyes look like dolls.
@pierogi: I tried Falsies and it was clump city for me! I can't get it to look anything like false lashes.
Benefit. I have SUPER long eyelashes, people always ask if they are fake haha! My one good feature.
I like Covergirl Lash Exact in Very Black - NOT waterproof. This one:
I love Clinique's black masacara. It's so clean and makes my lashes long. I also like bad gal lash.
I have been using Nuetrogena's healthy volume for a couple years now and I love it. It cleans off nicely and really extends and accents my long lashes further.
Hmmm. All of you Benefit fans are making me think I should try that the next time I order from Sephora! :)
I always go back to Lash Blast, even after trying Tarte, Bare minerals, Dior and Studio Gear. I suppose I will try Benefit next just to continue the cycle lol!
I love Maybelline Volum Express One by One mascara and No. 7 Extreme Length (you can find it at Target in the US). I'm always looking for a good lengthening mascara because I have short lashes and those two are the most lengthening I've found. I really wanna try Maybelline Illegal Lengths mascara, though!
@Aure: LOVE LOVE LOVE Benefit's They're Real, I don't think you'll be going back to the drugstore after you try it :)
I have really thick eyelashes and I have a lot of trouble with clumping mascara, which is why I love Blinc's Kiss Me mascara. It's water-proof, doesn't clump, and is awesome!
Mary Kay - Lash Love
It makes my eye lashes look like this: (not curled below, but when my eye lashes are curled they touch my eyebrows with this mascara)
Lancome Hypnose! It is pricey but worth every penny! I have tried Benefit mascara and still personally prefer Lancome!
L'oreal telescopic! I have long lashes already, and this mascara makes them really pop!
Loreal Voluminous is my favorite, original formula. I have tried others, cheap to very expensive and nothing compares to this one one me.
I've been using Benefit "Bad Gal" mascara forever and love it, but I havent seen "They're real". I'll have to check this out next time I'm at sephora. Thanks for the tip ladies!
@reebee: Haha, yeah, I'm beginning to think I'm screwed! Mascara is currently the only drugstore makeup that I still use and I can see that changing when my the Benefit gets here tomorrow.
L'Oreal Telescopic - I've tried others, but keep going back!
Water-resistant "feather lash" - not sure the brand. It's the only kind that will make my thick straight lashes stay curled. I'm dying to try waterproof Fairy Drops but Sephora stopped carrying it. :( I wanted to try it since I've been told my lashes are similar to Asian lashes so to try an Asian brand (Fairy Drops), actually I special order Shu Uemura curlers for the same reason. Sometimes I just stare at my fiances naturally full, soft, and perfectly curved eyelashes in jealousy.
To the ladies that wear the Benefit They're Real, does it leave marks on your browbone? Every mascara I've ever worn, even some waterproof ones (which I hate wearing), leaves marks on my browbone during the day and I have to wipe them off multiple times. Some are worse offenders than others, but I still haven't found one that doesn't do this.
I 8th (or whatever the number may be) for Diorshow. I really wanted to try the new Guerlain Noir because I heard its amazing but couldnt bring myself to tear away from the Diorshow.
I was thinking about starting a new thread, but I'll just post here. For those of you who curl your lashes, what is your favourite curler? I currently have a Revlon one that's on it's way out. It was a present many years ago and while it does an okay job it's starting to break.
@likelimeade: I got a sample of the new clinique mascara and cannot wait to buy it. It's phenomenal! I've used Dior before and thought it was not at all worth the $30.
I don't dig L'oreal because they do animal testing for many of their products--and it's SUPER gross because rabbits don't have tear ducts, and they lock them in boxes to immobilize their paws so the rabbits can't rub their eyes to help remove the irritants, and I can't get down with that kind of "beauty". And many companies (like Dior, YSL, and other high end brands who actually fall under the umbrella of larger companies like L'Oreal) don't openly test, but do not specifically state that no part of their product was tested on animals--so maybe the finished product is not, but components of it were.
HOWEVER, cruelty free mascaras that are amazing include Urban Decay's Supercurl Mascara (which is mega black and has an awesome brush that seems to find every lash), Josie Maran Argan Oil infused mascara (which helps condition lashes, great if you have brittle lashes), and Zuzu Luxe also makes a pretty well rated and loved mascara. All of these options, by the way, are not just awesome, but cost less in most cases than Dior & Lancome and are a good midway point between super expensive $30 dept store mascara and $9 drug store mascara.
PS I'm a professional makeup artist! So if the cruelty free stuff can hold up to my standards, please give it a try!
I've tried several department store brand mascaras, and I wasn't impressed.
I love L'Oreal Telescopic. I feel like it lengthens, curls & separates. It makes me feel so glamorous!
@Aure: Benefit's They're Real! Its waxy, dry formula does not make my thin lashes clump. Fairydrops Scandal Queen is good too, but since it has a more liquid formula, it clumps my eyelashes sometimes.
Dior Show hands down is the best mascara I have ever worn. I got it as a free sample at Sephora a few years ago and have been wearing it ever since.
Also, this about Benefit's animal testing policy:
And Benefit has the following half assed explaination as to why they don't call themselves cruelty free:
Other makeup brands confirm they are cruelty free, why doesn't Benefit?
Benefit is against cruelty to animals. It is our goal to be as transparent and honest with our customers as possible. We believe the "cruelty free" certifications provide unclear explanations to consumers, as it implies that none of the ingredients incorporated into products have ever been tested on animals. This is a nearly impossible certification for any cosmetic company to make. We prefer to be able to stand 100% behind our claims.
Actually, to call themselves crulety free, all they have to do is state that they do not test on animals, nor do they ask any 3rd party to do so on their behalf. Any ingredients tested on animals, say, over 5 years ago would at this point be less relevant, so if they said they were "curlety free" as of a certain date, they could appease their customers witha more direct answer. This on their website is their way of skirting the issue and not having to commit to making sure their suppliers aren't doing cruel (and often unnecessary) animal tests.
