DH and I just got our first home in July. Before we got married we lived with his parents and before that I was with my parents so I have never had my own place until now! My most favourite thing is waking up and hearing silence. When we lived with his parents they were always up early banging and clanging during the week AND on weekends..it drove us nuts!!! The in laws are currently staying with us because of a power outage at their house and I woke up at 7am to his mother putting away dishes and washing dishes in our kitchen right under our room! I also like that I cant out anyting wherever I want in my house and no one toches it our moves it. So what is your favourite thing about having your own place?

FI and I are loud. We chase the dog, chase each other, wrestle, yell, laugh like maniacs… I don’t think anyone else would WANT to live with us 🙂
Oh, I also like walking around naked. It’s great to air dry after a shower! Ha.

Walking around naked, definitely.
Spending the whole day in front of the tv with my hair messed up and makeup smeared in tattered old PJs.

Knowing that if there is a mess, it’s my mess! When DH and I lived with roommates it drove me crazy when there would be dishes in the sink and stuff all over the place, because it wasn’t my mess. Not to say our house is always super tidy, but it’s different when it’s your own mess.

We haven’t moved into our house yet, but I agree with the silence! We live with his aunt and uncle who are always up and always entertaining or babysitting their 2 year old grandndaughter, so there is always noise! I can’t wait to have more space too!

Just knowing that its OUR house, we saved and bought it with our own money.

We haven’t our own place yet (currently we have 3 other all male roomies), but we will this August! I had my own apartment before moving in with FI, and I’m definitely missing the silence, arranging everything how I like to, and walking around butt nekkid. Or even just in my undies. And having to not cart my towel and blow dryer and brush and hair foam to and forth from the bathroom. And not having to clean the entire kitchen every friggin day (HOW DOES THIS EVEN HAPPEN?).
I can’t wait til August, lol. I feel like I’m the housekeeper for a couple of these guys (not FI thank goodness).

sweetchiquita12: My favorite thing is definitely painting and decorating in our tastes. We always had apartments that forbade painting so this was really exciting for us! We ended up with trim in Cloud Cover and walls in Coventry Grey – this was our first picture post-painting the week we moved into the house. 🙂

I guess the biggest perk is being able to do whatever I want. For example, yesterday I went out for brunch, then spent the rest of the day on my couch reading a book, while my FI did some work, and later watched tv.
When I lived with my parents, they’d probably be in and out all day, or would expect me to carry a conversation with then rather than read by myself.
When I lived with roommates, it was similar. Either they’d be really loud, distracting, or they’d drag me out on a day that I just wanted to hang out by myself.

Not being expected to be social when my family (usually my sister) would invite someone over. Like ugh I just wanted a day to sit around in my pajamas and not shower and just binge watch Netflix or something. Now I have to get dressed and be nice to people?
Also having a treat for myself and knowing that it will still be there. Nothing worse than looking forward to that piece of cake when you get home only to get home and find someone else has eaten it

- Wedding: November 2012 - Oak Tree Manor
Oh man, so many things! Here are a few:
-Having a garden – it was hard to have a small container garden when I lived in a highrise apartment. I love having a backyard and growing herbs and vegetables. Plus our dog loves all of the space back there 🙂
-Decorating. I love scouring Craigslist for good deals, painting the interior, finding prints on Etsy, etc.
-Dinner parties – it’s nice having more space than my old apartment!
-Not sharing walls with neighbors. I love that we can be as loud as we want, and we don’t have to hear whatever our neighbors are doing (unless they’re outside in their yards, I guess). I really don’t miss the sound of footsteps coming from the apartment above me!
-Carrying groceries right in from the garage into our kitchen – and not having to park in a parking garage and lug my groceries down long hallways to my apartment. Shopping is much easier now haha
