What's your financial Achilles heel?

An earlier post got me thinking about this - what's your financial Achilles heel?  The one area in your every day life that you spend more money on than you should?

For me, it's going shopping with my daughter.  She always winds up with cute dresses that she wears once or twice and that's it.  I need to get her more practical things, but darn it, little girls' clothes are so cute!

My car. I love her, but I have a high interest rate, so my payments are high. And she's only three years old and falling apart. :/

Restaurants. We eat out way, WAY more often than we should.

Like @redherring, we eat out more than we should. It's a lazy thing - "I don't feel like cooking tonight, let's get takeout!." Or a hunger thing, when I'm at work, or a stress thing, because I stress-eat. I'll go and spend that $4.XX on Starbucks coffee, or $5 on a sub when I could have just brought lunch from home.

    I'm also a compulsive Internet clothes-shopper, but that's a habit I've *almost* kicked.

We're horrible foodies, so a huge chunk of our disposable income goes to food. Eating out, trying new things at the market (hello, whole check!)...grocery shopping for us involves more than five different store stops to get certain things..we'd save a lot of money if we just got what we needed, but what fun is that?

My horse. Her "rent" is almost as much as mine.

Besides that, clothes and shoes. I am constantly Ebay stalking designer clothing that I don't have money for but "can't pass up."

Haha I'd say rent, we live in an apartment that is way more expensive than we should be in, in one of the best neighborhoods!  But somehow we cut down other areas to make it work.

The other Achilles heel for the FI and I is beer!  Lol we're like the beer version of foodies, we only drink good beer, and we drink it a lot.  Expensive enough buying it to take home, but then we drop a LOT when we go to the great beer places in this city, of which there are many :-/

Clothes and shoes!  I used to go to the store and buy myself something whenever I was feeling down.  I've really been trying to get a handle on it to the point that I haven't bought anything in a while.  I finally got to the point that I needed stuff again and I just want to get more and more!

So many things!!!!  Id definitely say eating out and most of all, shopping!  I love to shop (for anything) so I spend way more money than I should .  I CAN NOT walk in and out of Target without spending way more than I intended to and I have to avoid the mall so I dont buy more clothes!

Definitely restaurants.  We'd much rather spend money on experiences rather than things, and we loooooove dinner dates.  But we should probably scale back, for the sake of our down payment fund!

FOOD and DRINK. Without a doubt. It's almost embarassing how much we spend on food and drinks weekly/monthly. We cook and love good food, but are also fans (perhaps too much) of the 4-course dinner out. We are also fans of cocktail hour and red wine. I should convert my 401k investments to Bombay Sapphire and French wineries!! ;-)

Ummm, groceries, I think.  We have a good budget set up for monthly food/grocery costs, but we always seem to go over!  Those quick stops at the store on the way home from work really add up.  We stopped eating out so much (now do it only twice a month), but that didn't really bring down our food costs as much as we thought it would.  :(

Nothing.  I am a complete super-saver, frugal person: I'm almost crazy about it.  I wasn't like this in the past, but due to the current economy and planning this wedding, I get guilty over anything I buy and I refuse to use my credit card for anything I can't immediately pay off (we're talking same-day, just use the card for the points and to build credit).  I hadn't bought new clothes in about 2 years until recently when my fiancé talked me into it because I really needed some clothes for work.  If we go out to dinner, it's no more than once a week and I never go out to lunch, ever.  I don't know, maybe when the economy gets better and there's no more wedding to save for, I won't have this buyer's guilt and militant saving mentality all the time!

We are generally really good with our money, so it leaves a little room to do what we want for the most part.  We spent a lot of money on going out with friends or stuff for having people over our house.  It's important to us, so I don't consider it a weakness :)

OMG where do I even begin - takeout/eating out, various vices (drinking, etc.), and concert tickets (I will have seen Phish 10 times this year in addition to The Dead, Springsteen 2X, and U2...) top the list. I go through phases with my shopping problem. I won't go for months but when I do I'll spend waaaaaaaaaay too much at once. My FI is much better with his money than I am thank god.

My groceries. I eat really healthy but I spent a fortune at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and the regular store. I could "budget", but then i'd be eating healthy. I don't spend too much money otherwise...i'm relatively frugal =\

if i want something i just get it but i dont spend over $500 for a bag or anything like that and i no longer use credit cards so i dont indulge too much... so i guess my indulgences are my monthly facial, massages & beauty products

oh, and good food produce. we buy organic and i think nothing of spending $30+ for 2 nice steaks to cook for dinner where i know my sister freaks at the thought (big family)

as its just the 2 of us, we dont smoke, drink or go out alot so i dont feel guilty about spending money on good quality produce

Gifts for people... I don't know what it is - I won't spend the money on something for myself, but have no issue plunking down top dollar for a gift I know a friend or family member will love.

I guess i should have said that if i budgeted my food i'd be eating LESS healthy. Oye.

I spend too much money on soap and lotion I think. But, i do have dry skin and i like to smell pretty--is that so bad? Even if unscented Dove or Nivea would do the trick....i like the Etsy stuff too much

Fashion, oh yes, hah- designer clothing/shoes/bags, but I'm reasonable and don't go too overboard heh. Sample sales are bad for me, my sister and I nearly wrecked the car other day when we stumbled upon a D&G sample sale and almost drove past the building :D Anthropologie will be the death of me! Actually, my occasional Hermes habit will truly be the death of me :P I have a penchant for antique jewelry of all kinds also. I'm pretty fanatical about keeping my clothes and such in perfect shape, and tend to buy pieces that are fairly timeless (though I'm pretty eccentric to begin with, so trends aren't too important to me). My sister is really into Marshalls and such, but I try to stay out of discount stores, less I buy cheaper pieces too frequently that are only worn once or twice. I'm one of the insane people that keeps spreadsheets of their wardrobe and charts out seasonal wardrobes. I can remember what I wore the first day of 10th grade, what our first date, what I wore to present my history report in 9th grade, what I graduated the 8th grade in (I'm 25). FI says if he were bleeding out and half-dead, all he'd hear to his cries for help are "Hold on a sec honey, Earnest Sewn sample sale is about to start!!!!"

FI is computers, video games, consoles, and books, freakishly large numbers of paperbacks! Oh and D&D, we have an entire bookcase of hardcover D&D books, it's as depressing as it sounds.

    Fashion, Books, and Food.

    I love fashion.

    I buy about 4 or 5 books a month

And I think nothing of good food. Totally worth it to me.

But I need to cut back.

Oh, it's totally food. We use the budgeter on Mint, and every single month, it's shooting over the amount we set for restaurants and groceries by, like, the 20th of the month. We really need to get that under control.

absolutely hobbies.  my FI and I are addicted to buying whatever equipment necessary for ALL of our hobbies.   SCUBA diving, rock climbing, backpacking, and beer brewing tend to be the most expensive. Oh yeah, and yarn.  I knit and he crochets.

Groceries (for the household) and books (for me).

With three kids we're constantly running out of something - stopping to pick up a couple things always turns into buying a couple bags full of things. And my book habit is insane - I buy far, far too many.

FOOD. We eat out way too much and we have agreed many many times to cut back, but we both work long hours and at the end of the day, it is just so much easier to have someone else cook dinner for us. I think I need to invest in a good slowcooker/crockpot. No worries though, we registered for one!

Traveling... can't stop! Anywhere from 100 miles to like 4,000 miles away! I have nothing but memories and pics to show for my spending habits. Oh, well.

I have not traveled since September... doing good. But just bought tickets today for two destinations next year.

It'a a good thing I live in NYC otherwise I would be spending lots on coming here all the time! lol!
