Hello all September Bee's!
Seeing that our beautiful month of September is hurricane season for a lot of places, I am very interested in your honeymooning destinations. Where are you going, staying, doing, and so fourth! What do you recommend, and say absolutely no way too!!
Can't wait to here your ideas!
Bride to be~
Amanda
Are you dead set on going somewhere where hurricanes will affect you? What about a road trip through New England? The leaves would be gorgeous (wow, I'm sounding like an old lady) and you can stop and see things that you might not have ever seen otherwise.
The San Francisco Bay Area gets its best weather in September! Of course I am a bit biased, but you can get some city time in San Francisco and then head up to the Wine Country or down the coast to Monterey or Carmel (gorgeous coastline!!!).
We are going to Kauai and it can't be here soon enough. :) We also thought about Europe too though.
San Francisco Bay Area! Definitely :-) I'm biased too, but that's where we're honeymooning before moving to Italy.
We are doing the Sandals thing and going to Negril, Jamaica. I'm a little nervous about hurricane season but I'm hoping for the best. We luckily haven't had any hurricanes in Florida this year. We would love to go to Europe but we'll save that for another time since we want to fully experience the honeymoon vacation thing.
We're going to Australia in September. It's perfect because it is spring there and we'll get the see lots of baby animals, and it won't be too hot to enjoy hiking etc.
we're traveling south east asia. europe is also really nice in fall - still warmish but past the summer crush of tourists.
We're getting married two hours from southern Vermont, so we decided to keep it low-key and honeymoon there since we've been before and LOVED it. With the wedding fast approaching, my FI and just realized this was the best decision we made. Thinking about taking a more exotic trip just exhausts us now! We plan on driving up, and we're staying at a lovely inn with a porch off our room overlooking some gardens, and we're doing nothing but eating, sleeping, picnicing and relaxing. If we feel like it, we have the option for go canoeing, hiking, outlet mall shopping and horseback riding.
After a whirlwind wedding weekend, that's exactly what we'll need. Plus, we're city folk who love the country, so it's perfect for us. And Vermond in the fall? Heck yes!
We're heading to Los Cabos, Mexico! The weather is supposed to be super nice and hot!
We're doing Europe - London, Paris and Rome. I can't wait! :) We're more of an exploring couple and figure we'll have plenty of beach trips with kiddos in the future, but I wasn't likely to leave or take kiddos to Europe. It may be a little rainy, but we'll still have blast exploring together!
we're heading to greece this september for a vacation. so excited! it's supposed to still be nice there and we won't have to deal with (too many) tourists.
ladybuglove, we went to Greece in September last year and it was wonderful! In the 70's and sunny almost every day. You're going to love it! have a great trip.
We are going to Aruba! We heard (alot of my coworkers go there often) that they usually miss the storms..the way they are centered, the storms (if they come) hit around them and not on Aruba, so we'll go with that! haa
@snmcdowell: thanks! how long did you stay? we are going for 10 days---santorini, mykonos and athens (w/ a day trip to delphi). any tips you'd like to share?
We just returned from a honeymoon on O'ahu in Hawai'i. I totally recommend the North Shore (we stayed at Turtle Bay and it was fantastic). Really chill, totally beautiful and just what we wanted!

We are going to Aruba! They are actually under the hurricane belt so they don't get hit (supposedly).... We went two years ago for the first time and it was amazing! The food is excellent the beaches are gorgeous and everyone is super friendly! It can get a little windy sometimes but when your on the beach and its kind of nice! I would definitely recommend Aruba!

We haven't decided yet, since we don't know how our budget will look after we move in March. It probably won't be fancy, though. Maybe a couple nights in a nice hotel in a city we have never been in.
This has been a debating topic I am having with the hubby to be. We will be married next August so our honeymoon is going to be in September. I would love to go to Hawaii and he wants to check out California (San Francisco or San Diego) I agree going to certain places there is a risk of hurricanes and I would not chance it. When we got engaged we actually were in Ft. Lauderdale Florida Sept. 2nd last year and 2 hurricanes passed over us thank god! Definitely not chancing that again. Good luck!!
So far, it looks like for my gal and I we'll be using the family cabin near Door County, WI. Free, close to a lot of fun stuff in Door County, although we would love to go somewhere warm, and tropical-ish. But, budgets being as they are, we both agreed to wait until our 1 year aniversary for a trip to Hawaii.
Next September we're honeymooning in Italy, Amalfi Coast. It's the tail end of the "in-season" so is supposed to be great!
Right now we're looking at Panema or Costa Rica. It's the "rainy season" in September, but I think we'll chance it.
We are going to Hawaii! A few days on the Big Island, then a few in Oahu and finally ending it in beautiful Kauai. Neither of us have been and we are so excited.
Confession: I've probably done more honeymoon/Hawaii research than actual wedding research, but am finally catching up now. I love to travel!
Northern california wine country is where we're headed. We didn't want to waste any of our precious time off of work for our honeymoon on an extended flight out of the country.
Another Aruba gal. Having worked in disaster response I am EXTREMELY paranoid about hurricanes.
We're using frequent flyer miles to go to the Maldives and Bali. My fiance has always wanted to dive at the Maldives, so that's the expensive half of the trip with Bali balancing it out a bit. It's supposedly monsoon season in the Maldives in September, but people say the rain can be infrequent and you could be lucky and have only sun. Either way, temperatures are in the 80's. Bali is sunny and 70-90F in September.
We rented a realllly nice house right next to the Rocky Mountain National Park, and are spending 5 days hiking, white water rafting, and coming home to an amazing mountain view hot tub and gourmet kitchen. I can't wait to make great food and relax with my husband! We'll be doing a big Asia trek next year on our 1st anniversary, so we decided to do something in the States that neither of us had done before (and it just happens to be very budget friendly! A whole house to ourselves for the cost of a nice hotel room in the carribean!)
We are going to Australia and Fiji.
But I seriously recommend a California trip if you want to stay within the US. In September the entire state is BEAUTIFUL!!! (that is why we are getting married in September) Fly into San Diego and drive to San Francisco... Take the 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) and stay at B&B's. Spend some time in wine country. Hawaii would be an amazing choice too if you want to stay in the the States.
I love Paris in the fall... Europe is soooo amazing in the fall time. I seriously have the travel bug... like all the time.
We llive in southern Cali... NOt sure if we are doing San Francisco or Vegas..
we dont have that big of a budget :( i would love to go to Puerto RIco or Hawaii but dont want to cut my wedding list and alcohol down
We're going to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico... It's on the Pacific coast, so there's less of a hurricane risk. There's still a risk, but I guess we'll just be living on the edge, HA!
Another Aruba girl here too. Not sure if we're staying at the Mariott (the one on the strip with the casino) or the Hyatt.
In a perfect world we'd go to Bora Bora or Greece, but there's no $$ for that right now. Plus, I think FI's parents are going to gift us our honeymoon and I don't want to take them for granted with a big expensive trip.
We are doing South East Asia, so no hurrican worries (just political unrest and monsoons). But, we consider it an adventure!
Another poster mentioned San Francisco as a good September location. I second her suggestions. SF is amazing in the fall (best time of year for weather). And if you can sneak up to wine country for a day or two, harvest will be happening which is very educational and fun.
We're going to Barbados! It's pretty far south so it's a low risk for hurricanes. We're staying at The Crane, which looks gorgeous in the pictures! We met with a travel agent so these are the places he recommended for the caribbean for hurricane season: Aruba, Curacao (he recommends Curacao over Aruba. Very similar islands but less "Americanized"), St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, and Barbados.
We are heading to Vegas right after the wedding and then we are doing our "real" honeymoon in England in May 2011. I didn't want to plan an major trip and my wedding at the same time. Also it meant I could do a honeymoon registry to help out with the cost of going to England :)
