In the parenting book Positive Discipline, there's a whole section about the children's temperments, and how some studies suggest that temperment and certain personality traits are even apparent while babies are in the womb.  So interesting!

And looking back now, I can definitely see how Addie's personality started showing from a very young age, and how some of the feelings I had about her when I was pregnant turned out to be true.  For instance, she was always super active during my pregnancy, and she is still one very energetic little kid.  Also, sometimes when I was pregnant she would push really hard on my belly; I would push her back, and she would immediately back off.  Outside the womb, she's very aware of other people's feelings and she's very affected by kids who are physically agressive with her when playing.  Another thing, she used to always get very active in my belly during mass.  At the time, my husband and I used to joke that she would either be a priest or demon, but now I think it was the music that got her all riled up.  She LOVES to dance and bops, sways or twirls to all music, even elevator music and commercial theme songs!

So bees, how did your babies show (or not show) their personality in the womb?  Were there any surprises?

That is really cool!  Baby B isn't here yet, but if she's anything like she is in the womb, she will be a night owl (god, help us! lol!), love music, and love listening to DH blow things up on the XBox!

I wouldn't say personality, but I would say somethings she did as a baby made so much sense to what I felt when pregnant. I always had this tickle really low on my belly, when Jillian was a baby she always had her hand up by her forehead in a whoa is me type fashion. She was always in such a tight ball as a baby, even at 3 she still curls up and sleeps on her knees and cuddles with little frog legs. They had a hard time with US because she was curled so tight in the womb (she was tiny too so it wasn't that she didn't have enough room).

Munchkin is still baking, so we shall see. He likes to kick and be active all the time. It will be interesting once he arrives.

I am still pregnant, but we were talking about that the other day. I think my baby will be a night owl if this is true.

Our little one is only about 7 months old but she was kicky in the womb and is still very kicky now.  :)  My nickname for her is "Chicken" so she's sometimes the kickin' Chicken.  I think she's liked music since before she was born, too.

Great thread - can't wait to hear more stories.

I'll admit, I'm a little concerned since this one is sooooo active in the womb.  I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with her once she's born!

I think it may still be too early to say for sure but yes, I'd say personality is apparent in uetero.  My son loved to push his foot up into my ribcage and if I pushed back he just dug in harder rather than give in and move some.  At almost 7 months, he is a somewhat stubborn child so I'm betting I have a long road to haul.  Also, he never really responded to music while in my womb and he still doesn't really seem to be "in" to music yet.  He wasn't a huge mover while I was pregnant and usually seemed quite content and he is a very content and happy baby and has been since day 1.

I've had two and I can definitely say that my older, easier baby was way more chill while he was still in the oven. I used to have to shake my belly and wake him up so I could make sure he was okay. Lol And the second "wild child" never stopped kicking. So I would say personality is already formed. Maybe even at conception. Who knows?

My baby is only a week old, but I can see her ppersonality so much. Inside, she would do what she wantsand was stubborn. I talked about someone else's baby once and she gave me a HUGE kick, like, cut it out mom, I'M over here!

Outside, she has soooo many facial expressions. I didn't think babies had expressions until they were older, like a few wks. She came out the womb like that, rolling down the hall to the nursery, eyes wide open, looking at everyone, mean mugging.LOL
