When are you picking out your bridesmaids’ dresses? I want to do it as soon as possible, but a lot of stores have told me that if my girls don’t plan on buying within a month of picking the dresses out, they can’t guarantee they will still have them for next June….

@sgwed:i began picking mine out in May of this year, i’m not getting married until next May. But they had their fitting in May and had until Sept 1 to get the dresses paid for in full and then it takes 5 months to have the dresses made, so around January their dresses should be back and ready for alterations, etc! Alot of dress shops told me the same, that it was too early, but I’m glad I went ahead and got that out of the way so my bridesmaids wouldn’t have to wait to the last minute! Good luck tho!

I had my girls pick them out early, but we didn’t go to a bridal store and they didn’t buy matching dresses, so it wasn’t a big deal for us.
My sister/moh is oot so when we were all up there visiting we went shopping together, and I didn’t know when we’d see her again so we just did it a little early. My other bridesmaid found a dress but my sister didn’t, but she kept looking after we left b/c she was going on summer vacation so she wanted to find her dress before she left.

We have the dresses picked out but will probably not place the order until early November. Wedding is end of April. It is really up to you though! If you are really worried about the dress being discontinued, then I would go ahead and order. Just keep in mind that many girls have weight fluctuations. However, they can order now and just do alterations close to the wedding date. These wedding timelines are just suggestions, though! At the end of the day, it is your wedding… Do what you want! 🙂

We picked ours our last November 2009 for our wedding in March 2011. I am making them, so I wanted to have plenty of time to gather materials, sew them, and get the fittings done.

I already had an idea of what I wanted so when the dresses went on sale (and had a free shipping offer!!!) thorugh J. Crew, I jumped on it. Mine are ordered and have arrived. I’d say you’ve still got plenty of time.

My girls are ordering this month (WAY early, I know). I’m excited to get this done – one less thing to worry about.

I’ve already picked mine out, wedding’s not until 9.10.11, I won’t have them start fitting/buying them until about 6-8 weeks prior, one is currently pregnant and she won’t be due until March so there’s no since in having her fitted lol.

I’m so glad to hear of others who are already trying to find Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. My wedding is 06-18-11, and my Maid/Matron of Honor is acting like I’m crazy for trying to figure out their dresses so soon. Granted, she is prego and having the baby at the end of January, so I don’t know if that’s the reason for her hesitation. I feel like I owe it to the other BMs to give them an idea of what I’m looking at and what their pocketbooks are going to be faced with. Maybe I’m just overreacting and am getting ahead of myself.

I haven’t ordered the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses yet, but it’s on my September to-do list). We picked out the dresses in June, then there was a snafu with the style/color availability. I’ve been delaying so I can see the new color in person.
We didn’t order them at the salon because I wanted to separate the fun of finding their dresses vs awkwardness of money discussions (I’m covering this for them).

Ours are bought already (just came in this week!).
I had a lot of people comment it was too early. I’m just glad to have another thing done!

All ordered and are ready for pick up =) I don’t think it’s too soon for ANYTHING at 288 days to go!

I would love to go ahead and pick my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, but one of my Bridesmaid or Best Man is preggo and not due until February. So…we’re waiting for her. 🙂 But, we picked our dresses almost the summer before in the last wedding I was in and bought them about 6 months ahead (which seemed a little early).

We’re ordering ours from Shabby Apple. I’ve had 2 girls order already and the other 4 I’ve requested order by the end of the year. =)
