Warning: There are lots of questions in this post! :)

Ladies who are TTC, already pregant or already mom's:

When did you test for pregnancy? Before your period was due or after it was late? What were results and were they incorrect?

So basically, what was your pattern for testing?

I tested last month when my period was 2 days late, it was negative, but now I caught the POAS bug and really want to get an early test even though I won't get my period until this weekend. Talk me out of it people! I can feel an obession coming on.

one month I started testing at 6 dpo... Totally a waste.

Now I only start testing at 10+dpo.

The first month, I waited til after AF was due.  The other months, I started testing early early (like five days before missed period early).

The month I got pregnant (but miscarried) I tested early not knowing that I O'd really late.  I took about 5 tests and then gave up around day 40.  At day 44, I took another test and it was positive (that was about at about 17DPO!)

Last month I started testing mutliple times a day at 8DPO.  Not good.

This month I initially said I would wait to test until after AF was due.  Then I re-negotiated my contract with myself and said I could test at 11DPO (I have a 12 day LP).  Today is 9DPO and I haven't tested yet.

No, no resist the urge.  I think waiting til the period is due is a great plan.  I am just weak!

@winniewolf: Too late. I already bought a test. I am peeing on that stick in the morning. I fully expect it to be negative, but it's happening anyways. Peer pressure, you know. :)

I tested the day af was due and hadn't shown... I tested in the evening before bed. Got a very faint + and then tested again the next afternoon with a more sensitive test.

Had I tested earlier I may have very well gotten a negative, gievn how faint the positive was on 14 dpo.

    WAIT! ;)

My goal was always to test after my missed period, but because I'm so impatient I would always test early.

In the beginning of TTC, I tested at about 10 dpo.  I went through a lot of sticks.  But then it got to the point where seeing AF was just easier than seeing yet another negative.  Then as I was going through infertility treatments, I would not test at all and just wait for the nurse to call.  This past time (when we got the BFP!) I was not going through the clinic, it was all on our own.  I wanted to wait for AF, so I didn't test until about 19-20 dpo!

Last ime, I started 9 or 10 DPO and it didn't work!! I kept getting negatives. I finally got a positive the day before my period was due!

In my 2nd month off the pill (not TTC yet), AF was late, and I tested and it was negative and it was a HUGE letdown.

Now I know much better and don't have to waste tests because I am temping.  So I know when my period is ACTUALLY due for that month, and I can just keep temping.  Hasn't happened for me yet, but they say that 18 days of elevated temperatures is pretty much guaranteed preggers.  So for me, THAT is the point when I will test.

During the month that I got my BFP I tested 2 days before AF was due and got a negative. I tested again the day that it was due, still negative. I tested every 2 days after that until it was 5 days late. That was the day I got my BFP. I wasn't tracking my ovulation that month but I'm pretty sure that I ovulated late.

Next time I don't plan on testing until after AF is due. Getting a negative is so discouraging, even if I know that it's because it's too early!

I tested 6 days after my missed period and got a positive result and then tested the  next day again just to be sure and got another positive. I guess because we werent officially TTC I wasnt rushing out to buy a test before the missed period. From what I read on the test its always best to wait till after the missed period you are more likely to get an accurate result

We have been NTNT for about 3 months (this being our 3rd) and I told myself from the beginning that I wouldn't test until AF was due, or had not shown. So far, I have held strong in that and haven't had a need to test yet, unfortunately. I think part of wanting to do that is because since we are NTNT and not full on TTC I didn't want to get my hopes up and get disappointed in seeing the negative. I also think part of it is a little bit of fear and nervousness of actually seeing a positive! AF is due tomorrow, so I will see if this month is the month I can finally POAS!

The first time I got pregnant, I tested at 8 or 9 DPO.  Nothing.  Tested at 10 DPO... nothing.  11 DPO had a faint line, and 12 DPO had a pretty visible line.

Now, I would lovvve to wait until after I've missed my period, but I just can't help myself.  I'll be testing this Sunday at about 12-13 DPO.  I'm 8-9 DPO today, and it's so tough to wait it out!  But, I'd just rather spare myself the disappointment and wasted test.

I'm impatient and have no problem taking tests early and often. But I buy the Amazon cheapies so there is no guilt :) Also, I got my BFP at 11dpo using this method!

I have ridiculous cycles (like 100/200 days prior to metformin) and I was a random stick pee'r - I POAS every few weeks just to spot check. This month I tested on CD26 because I was having some symptom oddness, but now I am CD 30 so I think I peed too soon. If my cycles regulate, I think I would wait until AF was late, because seeing just one line hurts a bit.

I'm forcing myself to wait until 14 DPO - or unless AF shows before then. I'm currently at 6-7DPO and already feeling impatient.

I really didn't want to deal with a negative results... plus those sticks are expensive!  So I waited until 16 DPO to test.  The advantage was that the BFP was *very* obvious.  I just didn't want to get my hopes up before I was even late in the first place.

Well...I peed on the stick, and there were immediately 2 little pink lines. So, supposedly I'm pregnant! I'm going to wait and test again with a digital on Sunday, though, just for confirmation before I get too excited. I need to see a "Pregnant" in the window before I'm convinced.

I haven't told my husband, and I'll think I'll just hold off until I'm certain myself. I swear he's more emotional than I am.

I usually start testing at 9 or 10dpo.  I got my BFP with my son at 10dpo.  I'm on cycle #2 with this one...

Aww...thanks ladies. Hopefully my second test will definetly confirm it.

@AvantLaLettre: My period isn't due until tomorrow, and the digital test I have says to use on or after your missed period, so I don't want to waste it. The test I already took was an Early Response that instructed I could take it before my period.

Well, I got frustrated after having a weekend of weird symptoms and feelings and POAS today (at 9-10dpo) even though I know it's a bit early - negative, of course.

I won't be doing it again until FRIDAY. That is officially two weeks, when AF is "due" - we'll see whether anything changes before then.

(Of course, I may still be waiting, since my cycle is so whacked out - though everything I've tracked suggests I'm doing ok this month. At CD30 right now, though that is normal for me. Normal as in 'who knows', that is!)

I caved again yesterday (day 11-12) and still a very obvious BFN.

Sort of wondering if I even try to NOT keep going with the POAS thing, because I know how impatient I am.

@jaguar: I did that last time-- I tested early and got a BFN, so I told myself I'd wait 4 more days. Then I got too anxious, and I tested 2 days later. I still had a BFN. So then I realized that I was holding off testing because of all of the boards that I was reading and people talking about waiting to test.

I realized that was too much for me, and it was silly that I was doing it. So I happily peed on a stick every single day until I saw a positive. And then I continued to pee on a stick for a few more days to keep seeing that positive! LOL!!!

Some people prefer to just get AF because the BFN is a little too much for them to handle. But I would prefer to see that BFN.

This time around I will probably wait until 11 or 12 DPO to POAS. I didn't get a positive until 12 days last time. So I'll probably POAS on day 11 just to see, and then every day after that!!!!

I POAS today at 9DPO but I only did that to use as a comparison. I know the chances of getting a + this early is slim to none.   I have the wondfo strips and had read that the line can be so faint that it can be very confusing.  I wanted to save one to compare it to.  Fingers crossed over the next few days that I get my BFP.

@HopingToBeaMama: I think I'll do the every other day thing - I just can't stay away, especially since AF's arrival could be at ANY time!! I'm so thrilled you got your positive last time. I'm ruling myself out this month but still checking and hanging out for a hopeful maybe!

@miss.skinner: Fingers crossed! I use those amazon strips too. I don't feel so guilty going through a stack of them now!
