I'm getting married the day before you and sent out my STDs on Friday. Most of my guests began making comments that they would need to take off work (to travel) so I sent them out with the accommodation info, etc. as well as a bit of travel information. The invites will be sent out about 8 weeks before our wedding, I'm thinking October 30th-ish so they won't get lost with the holiday mail.
I'm not a December bride, but I'm getting married January 8th so that's close enough! I plan on sending out my save the dates in April or May. I'll send out the invitations, probably, in late October or early November :)
My wedding is in August and I still haven't sent them, I'm waiting on a few more addresses.
I'm a December '09er and we sent our STD's at the beginning of February and our invites out mid-October since it was NYE.
I'm not sending out STD's but I think this month or the beginning of the next would be best. I'm planning on sendng out my wedding invitations in the middle to end of September.
Our wedding is exactly one week before Christmas so I sent my save-the-dates out this month and I'll send my invites out in August. Everyone was glad to get an early notice so that they can make plans to NOT go anywhere.
@auddurz: you don't think August is a tad bit early? especially with the STDs?
We're getting married 12-18-10 and are sending the STDs out next week. There is a link to our "wedsite' which has info about accomodations and all that good stuff so people can plan early. I'm not sending invites out until around Halloween!
Do you guys think this is too late on both things? I don't want to give people TOO much time with the invites so they would lose them or forget them and I don't want to send out the STD's too late or they won't book flights far enough in advance... oy vey!

All of us getting married in December and early January face a common problem: people are busy traveling visiting family! This is a good thing for us, because this year, we'll be able to have a lot of both of our families here for Christmas.
When are you thinking of sending out your STDs? Invitations? I want to do it pretty far in advance because I want to make sure people don't make other travel plans and have all the info they need, esp. to book hotels. But what do you think is too soon?
