I'm sure this question has been asked a hundred times, but I've seen so many different answers! One of my wedding books says 9-12 months in advance, generally I've seen most places/books say around 9 months. My wedding is in January, so I'm right at 10 months. When did all you bees register?

    Thanks :)

Oh gosh, we registered more than a year out. When we got engaged, our parents were asking us to register for a couple of things because they wanted to buy us stuff for our home, but wanted to make sure we liked/wanted it.

So we went out to the stores shortly after :) But we added the majority of our stuff about 10-ish months out. We just registered for a few things we knew we wanted right off the bat.

Remember here at WB you can ask any questions you want no matter how many times its been asked Laughing

Register when you would like - more than 90% of our guests are from OOT so we registered straight away, right at the 9 month mark actually.  We first browsed stores and tried to think where it would be best and how many stores we have to register at.  We decided on 3!

That's kind of what me and my fiance did. Not too long ago, we registered at Target (not for everything, just a few things we liked) and then started to hear horror stories about Target and their return policies, so we deleted the registry we had started. But a few weeks ago, we registered at Bed Bath and Beyond (again, not for everything, just for a few things we loved) and we figured we'd go back in a few months and add the rest, and register at a few other places.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't jumping the gun here! Lol

We still haven't finished ours and my wedding is in June!  I say, as long as you haven't sent out invites for the shower or wedding and haven't really started telling people where yet...you can do it whenever you want!

Just remember that some places will rotate merchandise and clearance out older styles on somethings...probably more common at a Target with linens and stuff like that.  But as long as you check up on it, no worries!

I registered over a year and a half in advance because we were having an engagement party. It was fine, except a few things were discontinued, so we had to update it. I think you can start now if you really want, just make sure to keep an eye out for discontinued items.

@Miss Britt - Yeah, I haven't really told anyone we've registered. I actually had a family member of mine that lives out of state ask me if she could see it just so she can get an idea of what our style is so she can think of what kind of gift to get us, so I showed it to her. & my Mom knows already, but she plans on buying us house stuff before showers and everything too, so this way she'll know what we like :)

    Thanks for your suggestions!

@starfish - Yeah, I'm constantly changing my mind anyways so that's why the online feature is so nice, I can change and edit as I please! Lol but I'm definitely on the look out for discontinued items.

I just registered last weekend and my wedding is in a month!!!!! Talk about procrastination!

I actually never wanted to register but my sister and a couple of friends talked me into it.  They were insisting that they should have something to give me in my shower.  I guess that's true.  I don't really want them to give me all lingerie or other random house stuff that I might not like.  So I registered the last minute :)

Ummmm, haha, I'm getting married in six months and still haven't registered!  I do plan to do that this month though.  No one has asked me about a registery (bummer) either so probably doesn't matter for my situation--of course eventually I do need one!

I'm so happy to read that I am not the only procrastinator! Our wedding is the end of May and we haven't registered yet either. In our defense slightly, though, we just got engaged on Christmas. Planning on registering this month. We are not having a shower (except @ my work maybe?) so it's not a big deal. I wasn't even going to register becuase we are having such a small wedding and everyone is traveling from out of town, but FI's family talked us into it since they are hosting a second reception for us in our home state in October.  :)

So, as you can see, you are more than fine to register now (keeping in mind the whole discontinued item thing) or wait a bit! Good luck and have fun!

I think that as long as you register before your shower invites go out, you'll be good to go! :)

If now is a convenient time for you to go, then I think you should get it started.  You definitely don't want to do several stores in one day, so spread it out if you can.  We started registering at Crate & Barrel but changed our minds and will be doing a BB&B one soon.

I just started registering for my wedding in August.  I plan to finish up in the next month  or so...showers will start in May I think.

I registered about 10 months beforehand.  Except for one bridesmaid who took advantage of holiday sales, I didn't get any other gifts until my shower.

It's actually been a bit of a pain that I registered so far in advance.  Besides stuff being discontinued, I literally forgot I had a registry at a store!  Once I got a gift from there, I checked and realized that I indeed had a registry there.  Whoops!

New stuff came out that I liked better and we found out we're moving across the country to a smaller apartment after the wedding, so I've been changing stuff every few weeks!

Wow! Thanks for posting this because I am MAJORLY behind the times according the advice you're getting.

@colomtnbride: you are SO not alone! we haven't started either & getting married in June.

@Maybee: your comment poses another question - when should shower invites go out? I think I can make that deadline, since my BMs & MOB are planning to set the shower in mid-May...I'm gonna post another thread on that - don't wanna hijack this one.

@msqthoney: oooh, where did you register? I'm in LA, too and I'm at such a loss...

I registered the day after we got engaged...literally! We were on Christmas break and were like "well we might as well get it over with now!" We already have a TON of stuff so we didnt need to register for much.

We actually just registered this last week. Ours is a week after yours, but we did ours what I considered early because we won't have time later. And I really wanted to have something to do.

We will have only been engaged for 6 months by the time we get married, so it would've been about 5 months out.

Basically, before the engagement party. We went to a friend's engagement party a while before and noone knew if they should buy a present, and if so what (first of friends to get married). So we decided a registry would be helpful, and it did get used :)

Well, I registered right after we got engaged. People kept asking us what we wanted so they could send us an engagement gift (??? I had no clue people did this!???) I just figured they could look at the registry if they wanted to get us something we needed/wanted. Especially since we were down here in TX and everyone was calling from MN. Now I have to go online and edit all of it. But, it was nice because we got awesome Christmas and birthday presents too. :)

We only registered about a month or two before my bridal shower.  So I guess in June/July for an October wedding.
