Why would you? If they expect you to make a decision right there and then, then they are probably not the photographers you want. When you go car shopping do you only test drive one car and buy it right then and there? I know I don’t.

You don’t need to tell them you have another meeting the same day, but you should tell them that you will make your decision after some more thought and review.

It’s not quite the same as “I have another buyer who’s interested so you beter make an offer quick”. Photographers know that you’re probably looking at more than just them and I doubt that mentioning other meetings will get your a better deal, since they have no way of knowing the quality of the others you’re seeing.

I don’t think it’s a faux pas to let them know, but maybe just keep it casual like, “I have a couple other photographers to meet before I make a decision. Is there anything you think separates you from the average wedding photographer? What do you think you do particularly well?”

I disagree with the above about not letting him/her know. Prices are negotiable and if you plan on negotiating with him its best for them to know they are not your only option. However, you want them to know that tyou love their work etc.

They are likely to give you the best price if they know you love their artistic work, but also have a budget and another alternative if their prices dont fall in that budget.

If you are not planning to ask for a discount (not sure why you wouldnt though) then it doesnt make a difference if they know you have another appt.

I let mine know that we were sitting down as a couple to look at a few portfolios together and would let them know either way.

I think the photographers would assume you were meeting with other photogs. Most people do. If there’s something you believe will give you good leverage in negotiations, use it, but on the whole, it isn’t a power play because they will already expect you to be looking at other photogs.

I know my prospective clients are  meeting with other photographers, but I don’t feel the need to be told about it. At the end of a meeting a “We’re going to think about it and will get back to you” will suffice. A follow up email once you’ve made your decision is always nice as well.

Yes, I think that the photographer probably knows you’re meeting with other photographers, but doesn’t necessarily need to be told. Have they asked you specifically about this?
