My first shower is in about a month, and I believe invitations have just gone out. A few items were bought off the registry practically as soon as we registered, but several more have been bought since the invitations.
I don't registry stalk, I registry PROWL. Everyday I logon with anticipation to see if anything has been bought and up until last week, I was always slightly dissapointed. I noticed the first item (our Calphalon pots and pans!) "fullfilled" about a week ago and since then someone has purchased 4 of our place settings and 2 of our matching cake stands. I doubt much more is "fulfilled" until the days leading up to the shower which is in a few weeks.
@UpstateCait: Ha, Prowl - that's awesome! FI's mother's sisters are notorious for buying multiples of the same gift, and thinking that it is funny - literally, his sister recieved 4 crock pots at her shower. I was hoping to escape that fate, since I don't know them that well, but time will tell, I guess!
For my bridal shower, a lot of people were last minute. For my baby shower, many people bought off registry but for some reason it either didn't go through or they didn't give the cashier the paper, so I had lots of duplicates.
@greenmint: My Bridal shower is in two weeks and only 1 item on our registry has been fulfilled. I'm not worried about it, people are going to do/buy what they want.
Someone bought our french fry cones two days after our shower invitations went out. :o Really fast! I'm trying not to stalk but it's hard...
My shower is in about a week and half. I noticed a few things bought right after the shower invites went out and since then a few things here and there but definitely not as many things as there are guests.
All our china was fullfilled right away and then some random items like an iron and a wok. I think most people buy right before the shower.
So do people just buy you presents for your shower? I thought the gift registry was for the wedding... Did you guys send an announcement about where you're registered?
I personally shop for showers very last minute, like day before. So, you never know.
@sierra.dewolfe: Personally, I usually buy a present for the shower, then just give cash at the wedding, which seems to be a pretty common, though not universal, practice.
When our shower invites went out, I had a few things purchased. Then last week, I had a surge (shower is this Saturday). I haven't checked it since this past weekend - due to 'orders' from my bridesmaids. I'm trying to be good :) - when I last checked, it was at like 42 items gone (out of like 100) on the one (BBB), and I really don't keep track of Target and C&B (Neither really have budged). Figured most people would purchase this week, or Saturday morning.
We did receive our first wedding gift a week ago (maybe a little more). Came home from work expecting a small box (FI's shoes) and this HUGE box was there. I had to unload it in the driveway it was so heavy. Turns out FI's grandparents went ahead and sent our gift early. Hello calphalon pots & pans! I LOVE the panini pan, if anyone else was thinking about it. Made myself a killer grilled cheese on it the other day!
I'm definitely excited! Only downside is driving 3 hours Saturday AM to get there.
I love "prowl!"
I actually am not registered yet but stalk my friend's registry who is getting married in August. Honestly stuff did not get bought until the week of her shower. People usually put it off till the day before. And I was surprised at all the stuff that people bought OFF registry! Still at BBB but not requested. And it shows up on their registry too! Really don't get that...
I registry stalked too before my shower and about 90% of the gifts I received were purchased within a day or two of the shower. Most people procrastinate I think.
FI's parents planned an engagement party, and asked a couple of weeks beforehand if we were registered anywhere. I started the registry, so I told her where, and people got us several gifts from the registry. I was very surprised this early, but very grateful.
Oh i totally registry stalked. Really people bought things about 6months out and up and until the wedding.
I prowl, too! I check multiple times a day.
Our Keurig was purchased for us months ago (thanks, Mom & Dad!) and then nothing for a long time. I know the shower invitations went out at the end of last week (shower is just over 3 weeks away) and so far five other items have been purchased.
Think about the idea that perhaps you are having a lingerie shower or some other type of shower also? That could be why!!!!

For all the brides out there who have already had their bridal shower: Did you registry stalk? And, if you did, when did you notice things starting to be purchased off your registeries? Invitations for my shower went out 2 weeks ago, and the shower itself is in 2.5 weeks, and (because I am relentlessly nosy!) I can't help but registery stalk and notice that nothing has been bought, except for the things that my FMIL bought months ago, that she already told us about. Is this weird? I'm not trying to be gift-grabby and greedy, just sort of legitimately curious about when people buy things, or if I am destined to recieve 4 crock pots.
