Hello bees ! My wedding is in 7 months ( :O !!) and we are planning to go to Europe for our honeymoon. We haven’t booked anything yet and are in the early stages of planning the trip and figuring out where to go. I’m getting a little worried that we have little time left, so I’m just wondering,
How much time before the trip did you book your honeymoon?

@mspanda13: Last week a month before the wedding. No joke. I’m sure I got a few extra gray hairs stressing over it.

We are getting married in March, too and just booked our honeymoon last night! We booked the resort, still have to get flights but not too worried about that until it gets a bit closer.

If you’re going to Europe in early March, and paying cash/credit, you’ve got plenty of time to book. It’s the tail end of the winter off-season at that time of year unless you’re going to Cyprus or Greece where it’s a bit warmer. Hotels and airfare for March will probably be cheaper around Novemeber-January than they are now, for the exact same March flights.
If you’re using miles/points, book now; you should still have a decent selection although business/first class tickets on points might not pop up till January or so.

Started serious research 6 months after getting married, booked a month later, departing on our 11-month-i-versary!

Our wedding is next June and we just booked it a few days ago! (10 months out). We were both super excited for the honeymoon and didn’t want to wait any longer 🙂

Booked the tickets about 4 months before. Just booked all hotels except 1 this past weekend, so a little less than 2 months before.

I think we booked about 2 months before our wedding and it wasn’t stressful. Then again, we did an all inclusive so there wasn’t much to arrange!

We booked 4-5 months before but we took a cruise so we only had to put down a deposit in order to secure our cabin. The rest was paid like 90 days before we left.

Wedding is October 6th and honeymoon has yet to be booked…whoops.
We keep joking that we’re going to go to the airport the day after the wedding and get on the next flight to a tropical paradise–I guess we should stop joking and plan something soon!!

I am going to start booking our flight and hotels in September so…9 months before? But I am only beginning. I will do flights September, hotels in October, etc…

Be really careful with booking too far in advance. Prices do go up closer to the travel date, but in most cases they go down quite a bit before they go up.
4-6 weeks in advance for domestic flights and 45-90 days for international flights are often the best prices. Of course if it’s certain high demand destinations (New Orleans for Mardi Gras, Hawaii around Thanksgiving, etc) then a bit earlier is better. 9 months in advance is usually way too early to book reasonable prices for flights. Plus that far in advance, schedules can and do change, destinations get dropped, etc, leading to all sorts of complications!

We originally wanted to wait until we were 6 months out, we had picked our destination long before then. But we went during peak holiday travel time (between Xmas and New Years) so I noticed in April that the flight we originally wanted was already sold out. So we booked ASAP.
