How long before your wedding did you book your photographer? I’m almost 9 months out at this point and I’m working on booking a photog now. I’m starting to panic a little that I’ve left it too late and all the good ones will be booked already. I’m getting married in the DC area so it’s a city environment and my month is very popular for weddings….

I didnt book mine until about 4 or 5 months until the wedding and still had my top pick of 3 or 4 to decide between. I think you’ve still got plenty of time. I’m in the Boston area and got married in July, which is also peak time.

that was the first thing we did after picking the venue, so close to a year out. I think at nine months you should still have a good selection of options though!

We booked ours two years in advance, but 9 months is plenty of time. You might not get you first choice, but you should be able to find several available photographers that you like. Good luck!

@Scc6a: we booked our photographer right after the venue and music, about a year out, maybe a little less. But I think you will still have a lot of options at 9 months out as well.

Right after I booked my venue, about 11 months out. Definitely get going as soon as possible, but you’re still okay!

I’m with @pengoala: I booked mine right after my venue, around a year out.

6 weeks, I think.
We org. had a photographer booked around 10 months and then she went MIA and ignored phone calls and emails until about 2 months before the wedding and eventually told me that she had an accident with head trauma and she couldn’t make it to our wedding and couldn’t send any of her staff photographers apparently? Darling Husband and I won a contest for her services so we had to re-work our budget to fit in a photographer.
It all worked out and found someone last minute.

I booked the photographer about 8 or 9 months before the wedding, it was the first thing I booked and it decided the wedding date since we are having our wedding on family property we didn’t have to book a venue.

It was the first thing I researched! =) We were pretty sure on the venue, but still working out our budget. We placed a deposit on our venue and then went straight to her to make sure we could get her. I don’t think its ever too early, plus your photog’s prices may change come 2012.
I think its one of the MOST important vendors, if not the most important. Don’t think you could ever be too early; but do all the research you can before making that deposit.

I booked my photographer right after I booked my venue in 14-15 months before the wedding. I was taking to him several months beforehand and he penciled me in to save the date for me. I was the first vendor I booked and I found him and was talking to him before I was even engaged and before I even found my dress.
Vendors book up fast….a year from the date of my wedding my photographer was FULLY booked for the summer of my wedding, so I booked him just in time!

I booked mine about 9 months in advance. I didn’t have any trouble getting a good photographer and am happy with the one I chose.

I’m getting married in July next year and just booked my photographer last month, so about 8 months out. You’ll have plenty of time!

We are planning to book our photographer this week for our October wedding. You should still have plenty of options!

@Scc6a: We booked ours a little less than a year out. FWIW, I’m in Chicago.
