We will have been engaged exactly one year by the time we are married and I’ve dress shopped a little since becoming engaged. (Wedding is Jan 3, 2015). When did you dress shop? What is the closest you would consider cutting it to your date?
I’ve yet to find “the one” and am not stressed (yet) bc I feel I still have plenty of time.
I know when you buy from somewhere like David’s Bridals they can order dresses fairly quickly and just to leave time for alterations (I’m 5ft 6in so it will have to be hemmed), but what did YOU ladies do? How close (or far out) did you order. And if you ordered early were you still pleased with your choice on the big day?

I purchased my dress on 1/12. I don’t have to make the final payment until it comes in which should be around June. Some places I called said I have to order no later than the end of this month while another place I went to said April – big difference in time. I found the one and figured I’d just order it as I have no plans to go dress shopping anymore 🙂

I got mine about 11 months before the wedding, after being engaged for about 7 months. I probably wouldn’t want to wait any more than 7 months before the wedding, to give the dress plenty of time to come in. As it turned out, I got mine on clearance off the rack, so no waiting at all!

- Wedding: September 2014 - Dallas, TX
I purchased mine the last day in November and my wedding is September 20, 2014 – so about 10 months before the wedding. I probably wouldn’t have done it much earlier than that. I’m already going to be getting it pretty early. They said it should come in by mid March.

I ordered 15 months before the wedding and very glad that I did. It took 6 months to come in and wasn’t correct, so it had to get sent back to the designer. That took an additional month. I’ve been seeing a seamstress for alterations now.
As others have already mentioned, it all depends on where you purchase the dress, but I think now is a safe time for you to order. I wouldn’t wait more than 8 months before the wedding, honestly.

@rhiannonzdanowicz: It can also depend on where your dress is being made. Chinese New Year will affect delivery times for most designers. I was told on 1/18 that my dress wouldn’t come in until mid-June but with an early July wedding date that left no room for error. They said the delay was the holiday. Luckily they found my size available elsewhere and snagged that one so it should come in early April.

@rhiannonzdanowicz: I purchased my dress at the end of May 2013 (wedding is May 3 2014) and my dress FINALLY came in mid- January. After that, I’m a big advocate of “the sooner the better”.

I ordered 10 months out. I do feel like the shops pressured me a bit and my dress came in with more than enough time (Pronovias). I wasn’t in LOVE with my dress on my big day but I guess I didn’t have a lot of regret over it either.

@rhiannonzdanowicz: I ordered my dress the beginning of March last year and it came in the beginning of June. I ordered my dress from a local bridal store so they said it could take up to 6 months to come in Depending on how popular my dress was and if they gad a ton of orders before mine. I was so happy when it came in after 3 months!
So I ordered my dress 1 year and 4 months before my wedding. I did have dress regret at first before my dress came in just because I’m usually so indecisive and I couldn’t believe I found a dress at my first appointment and it was the 9th one I tried on. I did try on one more after that. I thought maybe I should have made another appointment to try more on or went to another bridal store, but once I put her on I knew she was my dream dress!
I’ve looked at tons of dresses online since I’ve bought mine and none of them compare to mine. There’s not any I like enough to try on. I’m so happy I waited until it came in before I did something crazy. Lol I always pictured myself in a ball gown dress with beading and that’s exactly what I got. Good Luck!

I ordered a year out but only because we had to push back our wedding. Otherwise it would have been like 7 months out, which was really pushing it super close with my bridal salon.

I purchased mine on January 18th of this year, for our wedding on October 4.

I purchased mine about 10 months before the wedding *(July 26, 2014) Super early I know, but I am extremely excited and absolutely love my dress 🙂

@rhiannonzdanowicz: I got engaged April 2013, purchased my dress June 2013, and it came in on October 31, 2013. So I was way ahead of the game! I was just so excited to go dress shopping that I couldn’t wait. I always think the sooner, the better!

I ordered mine this weekend! It will be in late May. Gives me time for alterations and all that jazz.

I have a short 6 1/2 month engagement, so I ordered my dress 5 1/2 months before the wedding. It arrived yesterday (it’s been 3 months since I ordered it), but they said average wait time for my designer was 5 months. I feel like I took a gamble, but it paid off. If I had a longer engagement I would have ordered between 7-9 months out, especially if you have a wedding during the busy season.
