I know I'm in the minority for waiting until marriage to have sex (but I wouldn't change a thing!)

My husband teaches middle school, and let's just say he has some stories that freak me out a little bit; some of his students are doing stuff I'm not sure I knew existed when I was twelve!

So I'm curious if I was in the minority even as a kid, haha.

ETA: I ended the poll at 29 just because I know how much of the minority I am in, not because I think there's anything wrong with choosing to wait longer than that! :)

I was 19, but I think things have changed since I was that age...I have friends that are teachers and their stories shock me.  Also, my 12-year-old cousin was telling me stuff her best friend does and I can't believe it.

Good for you for sticking with you beliefs though!  Whatever the reason, I think it's really respectable!

I was 18. Felt like I was on the older end of the curve then too as a second semester senior in high school

I was 17 which was older than most of my friends. It sickens me to think that elementary school kids are already having sex.

I was 20, and probably a bit older than both. Both of my younger (still teenage) siblings have also lost theirs. Crazy! My parents have neighbors with an only daughter who is 11. I have heard some crazy stuff about her. For one, she hooked up with my 18-year-old sisters ex bf who was like 17 at the time. GROSS, and sooo weird. To each their own I guess. I just never would have been ready for intimacy at such a young age.

I was 17--which is, I guess, "old" now, at least in comparison to the 12-year-olds! I was the second one in my group of friends to lose it.

I was 17 and now that I have a daughter entering the tween years wish I could tell her I waited until marriage. However, we do have age-appropriate discussions about sex and respect, which is more than I ever received at her age (12 years).

I was 14. I was the first one of my friends, and even though I don't regret it I do wish I had waited for someone special.

ETA: Well, I did think he was special at the time. Then he turned abusive almost immediately after we started having sex... Soooo yeah.

@MissMellow: ;) I had a lot of reasons, but I haven't really found weddingbee to be the place to expound on them, haha. As others have said, to each their own - but I do hope someday to raise my kids to wait until they're emotionally mature enough to handle having sex (and having a relationship! I don't even want my kids dating at 12, let alone having sex, hahaha)

I wanted to wait until I was married for cultural reason but then curiosity got the best of me and did the deed at the ripe old age of 26 with this hot guy I was seeing. I'm so shallow, I blame the six pack abs. LOL!  The relationship didn't last but I don't regret it. :)

I had just turned 15, it was with my high school sweetheart, the quintessential "boy next door" (we were together for 4 years), and I don't regret it in the least.

    My step-sister was 11.

@daydreamwanderer: I was 16 when I tried it for the first time. I was not all that impressed and felt I needed to wait a little longer. I did not become active on a regular basis until 21.

I was 17 but it does scare me that kids these days are having periods at 11 and sex about that age.  My niece is 16 and I really really hope she hasn't lost her Vcard yet or at least not when she was 12 or 13.

I'm a bit worried about when I have a daughter. I'm hoping by the time I have kids (in a year or so) and by the time she is about that age, that the trend is for kids to have sex later rather than sooner.

ETA: Oh I guess I have to add that I lost it to my now DH.

I was 19 and it was my then bf/ now FI.

My Mom worked in a program that helped out younger mothers (sort of like WIC but a little different) she would come home and tell me what is going on at work like "A 12 year old entered into the program today, she is 6 months along."

I was 17. My first time was with my high school sweetheart and now we are getting married (25 now)! I don't regret it at all. I think it really helped that my parents were relatively open about it with me. I asked my mom to get on the pill before he and I had sex for the first time and my parents were "glad" that we were being so responsible. (I put "glad" in quotes because I don't think any parents are happy that their teenager is having sex..) I even made us wait for a whole month just to make sure it was working haha

I was 16 and had sex with my now fiance.  He's the only one I have ever been with and wouldn't change anything!  I really hope that my daughter doesn't do anything until she is atleast 16.  Hopefully she has some self respect that kids these days don't!!!

My FMIL works with lower class women who are expecting, and she stays with the mothers until their baby is a year and she just had a baby that turned 1 and the mom turned 13 right around the same time....how sad is that?!

I lost mine when I was 17yrs old. To my now Ex-husband.

I have a daughter that will be 8yrs old in May and I'm already having to buy her real bras...like 34A 's !! It's scary to think about the fact that my baby could easily be having her period within the next couple years. She is already very emotional and moody and it's becoming harder to ignore that those hormones are already on their way.

I pray to god she doesn't lose her Vcard before she's like 17 like me. Blah

I was 17 and it was to my high school boyfriend. I kind of regret it but I thought that we were special at the time and there's nothing I can do about it now so I don't think about it very much. FI is a virgin, he's 25 and has just always known that he wanted to wait. I'm glad that he did!

I was 15 with my boyfriend at the time who I was with for 2 years. Don't regret it at all! To me, knowing you have sexual chemistry with someone is very important- I'd hate to find out after the fact that we had 0 sexual chemistry or weren't sexually compatible. But, each to their own.

I was 17 and it was with my now FI. We were each other's firsts so I don't regret it at all. I had the opportunity (if that's what you want to call it) and I had a boyfriend who tried to force it on me several times before, but I'm glad I was able to get out of those relationships with everything intact. lol

I used to want to wait, and I did first by choice and then by circumstances for years.

I Finally lost my vcard to my FI at 29 when we were in the middle of our LDR. It felt right at the time, and was right for us, but I would never judge people for waiting, as I was sometimes judged.

I was 18... was with then boyfriend/now FI for two years before we decided we were ready. I knew I loved him and that we would likely get married one day. My parents brought me up discussing sex and how important it is to wait until you're married, or at least love someone. I'm a Jr.High school teacher (12-14 year olds) ....and the things I hear are outrageous. I had a substitute in one day and he phoned me later that evening to let me know he had to confiscate a note that was pretty explicit....yea..  you have no idea. At that age I was definitely not ready to be doing all of the things they're doing now.

I was 20 - and that was definitely the first time I felt comfortable enough with someone else to even consider sex!  I was a junior in college and it was with my then BF/now DH.

The stories of how young so many kids (and yes - they are still kids) are starting to have sex saddens and scares me!

    17. High school sweetheart who was a year older than me and was about to be reassigned (he went into the Marine Corps after he graduated) to Alabama, so on his last night... it happened. No regrets. He's a dick now, but it's better than 2 of my friends who literally "made an appointment" with a high schooler (they were in 8th grade at the time) and took the bus to his house after school to pop their cherries. One went first, and the other right after. It was so pathetic. He wasn't even desireable... he was just there. They both said they regretted it. Duh.
