I started around 32wks, as in itwas open and I put things in as I used them. I'm 36wks now and it's complete except for my going home outfit. I didn't pack too much since I live 10 mins from the hospital.
I had planned to do it at 36 weeks but then got busy with company coming to visit. Then I was going to do it the weekend of my 38th week but baby showed up a bit early so while I labored at home DH tried to pack one. He did pretty well but still managed to miss a few things.
Kinda wishing I had packed mine lol. I went into labor 9 days early but my my son pooped inside of me so I had meconium coming out of me. I remember sitting on the toliet yelling for my husband to get me a pad and trying to tell him what to put in the bag lol. Needless to say I had a C-section and a couple days in the hospital to get my mom to go to my house and repack lol.
Started packing right after my water broke, 10 days before due date :)
Luckily, we'd had to make a list of things to bring with us for our childbirth class, so DH had some idea of what to throw together.
I tried to get it done around 34wks but that did not happen. I did type up a packing list at 35wks. Here I am, 37wks today, and my bag is not packed. I did start getting things together last night! Hopefully, i'll get it done by this weekend. :)
OK, im a dork. I started last week (week 30) my DH is great but im sure he wont care about packing when im in labor and we live an hour from our hospital. each bag has a list on top of what to put in it, lol. Baby has a small pouch with his coming home outfit and blanket. I have my bag witha check list and i am gathering things every now and then and DH has a bag with a list on top of what he needs.
I talked about packing it and had a list for a long time, but didn't actually do it until 37 weeks. And I kept adding things that I had forgot, so I was glad I had that time to keep thinking about it.
i went into labor at 35 weeks and hadn't packed a bag! i literally threw all my crap in a duffle bag in the middle of the night after my water broke before rushing to the hospital.
@spraguebride: Honestly, I think it ALL depends on how far you lie from the hospital.
I'll pack like 6 weeks ahead of time because if I forget ANYTHING...My husband will have to drive 35 mins back home to get it.
Plus, if you live like 5 mins from hospital...you'll have more lee-way at home for taking your time & packing (but for me, I better be out the door quickly)...because I have a drive to go...
*but ya know, even if you forget stuff, as long as the baby's healthy and so are you...you can go home barefoot and I bet you'll still be over the moon with happiness...so, no biggie!
37 weeks - it's sitting open in our room so I can put things in last minute that I'm still using (toothbrush, deoderant, etc).
There's also a list sittingnext to it of things for my husband to grab if things get crazy last minute and I can't get them myself.
All you ladies that have a list...would you mind sharing?
ETA: I realize there are numerous posts detailing this...I just like to see as many lists as possible
I plan to have a vaginal birth, but in the event of a c-section and i have to stay longer i will have to send my DH if i forget anything.
DH:
Change of Clothes, Sweat Pants, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, razor, cellphone charger, peanuts and other snacks, change for vending machine, pillow for him, camera, batteries, camera charger.
ME:
Manilla folder with important insurance and medical info/ copy of drivers lic., 2 pairs socks, bathrobe, toiletries, makeup, hair brush, Kindle and charger, going home outfit, clean underwear 2, heavy flow pads, toothbrush/paste, flip flops for shower, Pajamas, 2 nursing bras (2 different sizes). Sugar free hard candy, Pen and journal, extra pillow, extra ponytail holder and headband, lip balm, nursing pads, boppy. Sock with 2 tennis balls (counter pressure for back). Good bath towel.
Baby:
4 burp rags, 2 extra diapers, coming home outfit, blanket and car seat, socks, no scratch mittens, (you never know that little guy may have claws). Bsby book , to put foot prints in.
Thats what i have so far, i would rather over pack than be wishing i had brought more. I am sure i will fin di am missing something in the weeks to come.
I also made sure that my parents have a key to my house and we have a friend that watches our dogs and she also has a key.
I need to show DH this thread and be like, "See? I'm not the only one who wrote out a list!"
On my list is toiletries for me and DH (shampoo, body wash, deodorant, etc.). All travel sizes I picked up at Target (so they take up less room). Change of clothes and underwear for DH and shorts for him to sleep in, PJs for me, My going home outfit will most likely be track pants and a t-shirt, Nursing bras and underwear, Pads and nursing pads, Flip flops, camera and cell phones with their chargers, scrapbook paper for baby's footprints, our birth plan, insurance cards, and all other hospital paperwork, snack food for me and DH, going home outfits for baby (I plan on packing two different sizes in case she's bigger/smaller than expected), receiving blanket, and baby grooming kit with nail clippers in it, and a laundry bag to toss all the dirty clothes in.
Also, sombody posted a tip on Baby Center about bringing a trash bag and a towel to sit on in the car in case your water breaks on the way to the hospital so you don't have to worry about cleaning your seat. I plan on sticking both in my backseat!
I will be packing mine within the next week. I am at 29 weeks as of tomorrow, but I know this guy is coming early so I want to be prepared for it unlike last time...lol. Hopefully my 17P shots will work, but if not I want to be prepared.
@newbiecici: That may come in handy. I had to sit on a trash bag covered with a towel twice.
I put a few things in it around 36 weeks because I was cleaning up the nursery and we'd just had our shower so it made sense to put his "coming home" outfit in the baby bag (although we didn't end up using it since he didn't come home till later).
I think it's good to pack up things that you can and keep a post it with a list of "last minute" things like your cell phone charger and things you use every day. You never know if someone else will have to bring it to you so it could save them some trouble if it's 90% packed (although I left my bag in the car when we went to the hospital because I didn't think I was really in labor).

I was on another message board and was surprised to see that people were packing their hospital bag weeks and weeks before thier due date.
I wonder when I should start packing.
When did you (or will you) start packing your bag?
