Just curious, when you took your dress home. i plan to pick mine up the thursday before my wedding. So I'll only have it in my home for 3 days before the wedding. Did you pick yours up the week of the wedding or did you pick it up as soon as it arrived?

I am getting my dress altered this Sunday - not sure when I'll have it back, but I will pick it up the day it's ready! I left work early the day my dress came in last week, I couldn't wait, so I know it will be like that after alterations.

@bells: My bridal salon actually couldn't get rid of my dress fast enough - My wedding's in September, and my dress came in mid April.  So I have it with me, waiting for the right timing to visit a seamstress! :)

My bridal salon didn't give me a choice - as soon as my dress came in I had to pick it up.

I love having it in my closet, though!

I picked mine up as soon as I could, because I bought it an hour away from home, and the alterations are a lot closer. I just felt safer knowing it was being stored by someone I knew..

I picked mine up as soon as it came in (last June!) but then dropped it back off at the salon for alterations in February and just picked it up for the final time this week.   It's been transported to the town I'm getting married in and is now hanging in the closet of a friend, all ready to wear on the big day!   I thought most salons had policies about how long they'll hold onto the dress before they start charging for storage, hmm..

Wow seems like most people pick theirs up asap. My bridal salon gave me the option to keep it there until the day before the wedding. And I chose to pick it up 3 days before. I dont have a lot of closet space so this is great for me

My dress hasn't come in yet, but I plan on leaving it at the salon until the week of the wedding. I think it is safest there, and has the least chance of anything happening too it! Plus, I won't be tempted to try it on every day!

i did not want mine in my home for fear of leaving the closet open and my cat having too much fun! so i left it at the store until the day i was departing to Jamaica. then i picked it up, left it in my car and transferred to my friends car when she came to pick me up to take me to the airport.

I got mine as soon as it came in because my bridal store charges $75 to store it and it didn't seem worth it since we have a few rooms in our house that we don't even really use.

@bells: I'm picking mine up next Tuesday after alterations which will be a week and a half before the wedding. If I'd have taken it home when it arrived I would have had to store it at my Mum's meaning I would have had to do a 140 mile round trip to take it back to the shop for alterations. I felt safer leaving it there so it was there responsibility to look after it also.

I got it from a little boutique instead of a bridal store, so I was able to take it home when I bought it (a year before the wedding). I kept it at my mom's though so my husband wouldn't find it.

I picked mine up when it came in (months before the big day) and it sat hanging above my closet until I took it for alterations

I took it for alterations about 2 1/2 weeks before the wedding and picked it up 2 days before =)

Alerations were finished 2 days before the wedding, so we took it home then.  It was down to the wire!

My shop offers to keep it stored there until I want to pick it up. Which will probably be a couple months before the wedding for alterations.

I picked mine up the day before the wedding so the store could give it one final press and steam. There was nowhere in our apartment I could have aired it out where DH couldn't see, and I didn't want it to sit wrinkling in the bag from my final fitting until the wedding.
