I always hated the taste of coffee; tasted my dad’s coffee – nasty. bought an icecream/coffee thing at the suggestion of a friend senior year of high school – nasty. Tasted my husband’s iced coffee drinks on more than one occasion – nasty.
Then I started my first full time job a couple of months ago and last week a coworker brough us all coffee, and suddenly, it was sooo good.
This week I got a java chiller from Sonic and then today when buying my husband’s double shot frappe, I snuck some of his (which I used to think was disgusting) and bought my own macchiato.
I really don’t know what happened to flip my switch, so now I’m curious about when others became coffee drinkers.

@harleyq: Welcome to the other side, my friend!
As a little girl, I always sipped on my mother’s coffee when she wasn’t looking. I thought it smelled delicious as a small fry, and little has changed. I would have it as a weekend drink starting in middle school. It was sort of a ritual; Mom & I would watch looney tunes, and sip coffee together. How I miss those simple pleasures with her. 🙂

I think I started drinking coffee around 12 or 13, and definitely once I was in high school I was drinking it every day. I’ve always liked it though; my dad used to give some of his when I was little.

I worked at a coffee shop for 6 years through high school and into college. I absolutely hated it!!! Then I got a full time job and there was something about it that drew me to drinking it every single day after that. Granted, I still had to put 3 sugars in it and 50% cream to get the taste away, but I loved it for about 5 years.
I’ve since given it up and gone to tea due to stomach issues but I do miss it!

I had my first (enjoyable) coffee at 15 and became a daily coffee drinker at uni. I still only have 1-2 a day.

Eh, taste buds change throughout the years.
I never really liked the taste of coffee unless it was full of milk and sugar..lol. Even in my first couple of years I really didn’t like it. Then, towards the end of college a friend had me try a latte and of course I was hooked. Once I started drinking GOOD coffee (not the folgers crap) I really started to like it.

@starfish0116: Ugh, you mean the instant garbage? Yuck yuck yuck yuck! I’ve never been able to swallow an instant brand like Folgers crystals or Sanka. BLECH!
I think my favorite now is Jamaican Blue Mountain or something like that… yum!

I have always drank tea and coffee, even as a little kid. I was that weird kid that hated kool-aid and soda so my mom and grandmother would give me milk with coffee in it. As I got older less milk, more coffee. Now I still cant stand sugar drinks and drink my coffee black.

@StuporDuck: I’m glad I’m not the only coffee snob. We don’t even keep instant in the house. We have good beans, a grinder and 4 different methods of turning that ground coffee into something drinkable. Why bother with instant?

Middle school, I think. I always loved the smell of coffee, and couldn’t wait to start drinking it myself!

I always hated it, but wanted to like it b/c I felt like I was missing out!
I trained myself from coffee ice cream to very sugary lattes to just cream and sugar. Started drinking it regularly around 22.

Mmmm… 15? I am only on decaf now, it is a big step for me. I just finished a year with nearly zero coffee consumption of any kind, too, back in July. I was real bad, 4 or 5 cups a day for a couple years in there.
