FI and I are getting married next June (exactly 8 months from yesterday) and have been engaged almost a year (this coming weekend will be a year since he proposed). Since getting engaged, we’ve booked all the “big” things – the venues, band, photographer and florist (well, we’ve chosen a florist – we’re finalizing the contract this week). I also found my dress!
Next up, we’re choosing bridesmaids dresses and invitations (though I’m pretty sure I’ve already found the ones I want).
So at this point, we’re 8 months out, and all I seem to be interested in looking at are the tiny little details. Like table numbers. And favors.
But I also feel like it’s too soon. Like what I want will change over the next 8 months. Especially because I still don’t feel like I have a real, true idea of what I’m going for.
So Bees, when did you start planning the details? When did you start buying the little decorative things that made your day unique? Right now, I feel like I’m planning such a traditional, non-unique wedding and I don’t know how to get out of that rut. I know it will be beautiful, but I feel like it will be just like everyone else’s wedding. I want to start with the little things, but don’t feel like I can do that until I have more medium-sized things out of the way (like table linens, FI’s attire, etc.)
And more importantly, when did you start to feel like you knew what your day was going to look like?
Yikes, I realize that this is kind of a ranty vent, but I just feel like my wedding planning is going nowhere. I’m going through the motions, but I have no idea how it will all tie together.

I know exactly how you feel….I felt the same way. Basically, I tried to imagine in my head what my wedding looked like (overall theme and then went from there on details). It was hard to find all the specifics I wanted because I was having a beach wedding…so everything had to be nautical….I ended up getting a lot of odds and ends from here http://www.zazzle.com/rusticharbor/gifts?cg=196311382121729265 They have really great stuff because it’s all artists who make everything and you can personalize almost anything! So it’s totally unique! Hope this helps somewhat!

annb9: I am getting married a little bit before you (May 2015) and have already started to buy the little details (or made). I figured out how the logistics of everything and went from there. Pinterest and Etsy are my favorite things right now because I have gotten a lot of ideas from there. Etsy is great because most sellers can customize the item to your colors or what you like.
Hope that helps! 🙂

I can second what FireLilyO just said. I am having a tiny wedding, but still making sure all the details are right. I have been using Pinterest like crazy, and the florist & photog even asked to see my Pinterest so they could make recommendations based on what I liked. I had my ring customized by an Etsy seller to better match my ering and she even agreed to price it LOWER than the original because of my freakishly small finger (less finger, less gold and diamonds). I wasn’t sure what I wanted exactly, but somehow the things I liked consolidated into a black and white roses theme with just a touch of witchy autumn flair (it’s a November wedding). Not sure if it’s possible to be quite so seat of the pants for a bigger wedding, but that’s how I ended up getting the details right anyway 🙂

I’d say I started paying attention to the details 3-4 months before the wedding. Mind you, I planned our wedding in 6 months.
