My wedding is a little less than 14 months away.. am I shopping too early? (PS completely clueless when it comes to wedding planning so I’m looking for help in all places).
I’ve been told most require you to order the dress 8 months prior – so I’m thinking if I order something in January I would be ok – also, does anyone know when the 2012 fall collection might come out?

i am getting married a month before you and i haven’t been dress hopping yet, but i am probably going to go in the next few months. i am a litle anxious about it though, to be honest…i just don’t know what to expect! lol

I went and bought my gown this past February and it was expected to come in towards the end of July, but came the end of June. They usually take 4-5 months to order in, so ordering a gown 8 months before the wedding is the norm. It’s up to you whether you want to get it way ahead of time. I honestly did not have a clue what type of gown I wanted, and getting inspiration from the Internet was NO help whatsoever. My advice to you is to go with an open mind and try everything on. I must have tried on 15 gowns that were all very different and looked really pretty, but once I found THE GOWN, I was very happy and STOPPED looking.

I got engaged in May (2010) and started looking 3 months later. By September I had ordered my dress, so 9 months before the big day.

I’m getting married in March, and I went shopping in June. My dress should be here in the next couple of months.

I got engaged in March and bought my dress in April. My wedding is in November, though, so it’s less than 8 months from when I got engaged to when I will be getting married. I needed to buy the dress pretty quickly because it can sometimes take a long time to come in. Mine still isn’t here but they said it should be in by the end of the month.
I think it just depends on you. Personally, if I would have had more time to shop for a dress I would have driven myself crazy because I would have kept trying on dresses and kept second guessing myself. And I’m the type of person that if I have too much time between when I buy something and the event (weddings, formal events, etc), I end up changing my mind and wanting something new before the event even happens.
For me I think it worked out best that I made my decision in a couple of weeks and won’t have time to change my mind once my dress gets here (even though I still love her).
So basically, I really think it depends on you and how you like to shop. I think some brides need a lot of time to make the decision and it can take them months and months of dress shopping to decide, whereas others can decide quickly. Maybe you should begin looking online and see if there are ones out there that you like.

I started looking in Feb. (11 months before my wedding) but didn’t find my dress until June! It’s always better to start early than late. I almost waited too late because the dress I ended up getting would’ve taken 8 months to come in and I only had 7 until the wedding! Luckily the dress was my size and the shop let me take that one home with me! Also, since you do have so much time, you could do some research and see when some of your local bridal shops have their big sales. I think they are usually in July and January, so you might luck out on a really good deal. My best adivce before going shopping for your dress is to do a lot of research online. Find out what designers you like and which ones you don’t and try to have some sort of idea of what you want in your gown before going to look. I had a general idea of what I wanted and I feel like going shopping was much smoother because of this. Good luck!

- Wedding: November 2011 - Florida Aquarium
I started 6 months before… and I bought my dress in the first (and last) weekend I went. I went to four boutiques and fell in love at the third. Slept on it. And bought it the next day. My dress was supposed to take four months to come in, but it only took three.

I seriously started looking this past Friday, although I had tried on a couple of dresses about 2 months ago. Looking to purchase shortly.

It’s my first post!! 🙂
Early…I actually began shopping in Feb. 2011 for my May 2012 wedding. I have a bm and flower girl in Ireland so I needed to get their dresses in time to ship over, get fitted, etc. so that it what started the process. I was there looking for their dresses, figured it didn’t hurt to look myself! My dress should be in late next month…which is weird! Hope I still love it!!!

I say the earlier the better so you have the time to figure out and find what you want with enough time.
I had my first shopping experience a few weeks ago and the helper wasn’t pushy at all and said its good to shop early so that you have options. Gives you time to really find out what looks good on you
