@orchidaloha:  It’s not really your name yet so while it’s cute, some might find it a bit silly.

I will use my appended name after we are wed.

@orchidaloha:  I agree with PP, until you’re married it might be a little strange to use it.  I did start using mine immediately after we were married though!

@orchidaloha:  As my wedding gets closer and things come up (exactly like what you describe re: signing up for a store account or something), I will use what will be my new name. Then there is less to change over once it’s actually official. I plan to start using my new name immediately after we say I do, and making it offical will be the very first thing I do once the dust settles after the wedding. I really do not understand why women who had always planned to change their name after marriage dilly dally with it and put it off for months after they are married. Makes no sense to me.

@orchidaloha:  I disagree with previous posters. We use a single family name when signing up for points cards, as well as people like decorators, etc. Also, most of the vendors/subcontractors my FH works with know me as MyName HisLastName because it’s much easier when I need to invoke a favour or something.

We knew early on that we would be together for the long haul, so using one name with convenient doesn’t phase either of us. This is also coming from the woman who is strictly opposed to the tradition of taking a man’s name after marriage, so go figure!

I started using mine the day after the wedding!

But I still use my old e-mail.

I’m using his name for small things right now. I order digital photos through the local department store so I’ve started using his name for that. Store accounts I use his name for as well, and on Facebook I do. Everything else is waiting to be changed. 10 days!!

I started using my new name the day of the wedding, but to avoid any confusion or legal technicalities, I used my name until we were legally married. My last name was my previous married name which I’d grown to hate but kept until remarriage for my children’s sake. I couldn’t wait to change it!

@orchidaloha:  Yeah, it is weird to use it before you’re actually married. I’d give you a weird look too 😛

I plan on using mine the moment we get married!

We aren’t honeymooning until December, so I am keeping my name until then. It just seemed easier.  Once we get back I will make the transition to his name.  Until then, I’ll probably start slowly transitioning things that don’t require legal documentation…

After the wedding, I used it for any new accounts I set up like little in-store promos or new utility bills when we moved. But I actually didn’t officially file my name change until almost a year later. We moved and started a business all at once so all the paperwork semantics got a bit hectic. I just got my new social security card and my new license today as a Mrs. It’s so weird! I finally “feel” married.
