We told everyone as soon as we were approved, won’t be long now! Congrats guys~
We signed closing paperwork in the morning and the realtor brought the keys by that same afternoon. Sometimes you can have them ready when you sign the papers

We got the keys the same day we closed and started renovations. Our parents knew but we didn’t feel like we needed to tell anyone else really. We posted pics of the before and after since we basically flipped it but other than that no one knew until after we had closed and moved in.

If I were you I would hold off telling anyone else since something could still go wrong. Once you are approved for the loan I would feel more comfortable talking about it to the general public. Good luck!

Our close friends knew we were in the process.  We didn’t put anything on Facebook or anything until after we had fully closed on the house and had the keys in our possession.

Like PPs said, we got our keys at closing.  We immediately had a locksmith there to change the locks!

@RoseyBee:  The seller handed us the keys at the closing. I have some ridiculous pictures of me squee-ing over it because the lawyer who did our closing is a friend of my mom’s and they insisted. Congrats!! It’s super exciting!

Our parents knew when we were closing and when everything finally happened, but that was due to some last minute venting about our hard to reach bank Chase. Lol oh the joy that was.

We didn’t make any other announcements. Really, who cares and is as happy about stuff like that as much as you and your SO are? We talked about it in conversation like “what have you been up to lately?” Or “what did you do over the weekend?” We just bought a house or furniture shopping for our new house.

@RoseyBee:  You’re better than me! I told my family at Thanksgiving that our offer was accepted and we didn’t get mortgage approval until January (our choice) since we didn’t want to close until March. Everything went smoothly for us. 🙂

We’ve told our immediate family and friends when we’ve seen them, but held off on putting anything up on facebook.  My husband didn’t want me to “jinx” it! I’m glad I didn’t because our closing date has been pushed back until some work on the house can be finished and it just seems like better to wait until it’s seriously official.

I always presumed you got the keys at your closing.

@RoseyBee:  I told everyone AFTER I closed on the house. I was approved for a few homes, but the inspections came out not so great and I changed my mind. I had a couple of homes that I just knew were the one, but fell flat. So held off ringing the bell until the keys were in my hand.

Haha I made a freaking Facebook post the moment our offer was accepted. I made the disclaimer of “well, not “bought”, but our offer was accepted over 5 others” or something like that. I was just SO EXCITED.

If I remember right I called my dad and my husband called his parents first, so that they didn’t find out via FB, but it was right after calling them that I made the status.

We held off on telling anyone but family until closing documents were signed and sealed and we had the keys in our hands.

There is SOOO many factors that could happen before those papers are signed that could cause you to lose a house.

Our family and my close friends knew right away. I didn’t put anything on social media until the day we actually go the keys to the house 🙂
