When did you transition your toddler to toddler bed?

@DiamondnLovey:  I’d wait until she’s a bit more independent.. I switched when my daughter was 18 months, but she had been walking for 9 months at that point and had started crawling of her crib

@DiamondnLovey:  Another factor to consider, besides whether or not she is climbing out of the crib, is if and when you plan to have another child.

It’s nice to transition the baby out of the crib when you have time for that to happen gradually, rather than pushing them out because you need the crib for  a new baby.

DD was 2 when I moved her to a “big girl bed”. It was her present for her 2nd birthday and she loved it. We hyped it for the week or two before hand so it was a great treat for her.

I never used toddler beds. I went straight to twin beds with side rails somewhere in the area of 18 mo to 2 years old. Seems like the toddler beds are an unnecessary expense IMO.

@1inthechamber:  we never used a toddler bed either- my son went straight to a captain’s bed. I figured  the captain’s bed was actually lower to the ground and less distance to fall than if he was climbing over the crib rail.

Well considering my son is 2 years and 5 months he is still in his crib.  So I really wouldn’t worry about it yet.

My best friend and his wife transitioned their son when he was just a little bit over two, and he HATED it.
