Hi Bees! Just curious as to when in your life you noticed your metabolism stop working so efficiently.
I am 26 and have been noticing in the last year and a half or so that weight just doesnt come off as easily as it once did. I’m worried a bit about staying fit and healthy for the future– any recommendations for dealing with this sudden realization?

@1stRosie: I noticed about that same age. Just start working out or work out a little more. I did not workout before the age of 28 and now i do bootcamps and workout 4x a week. Exercise will raise your metabolism again

I’m 28 and I agree, right around 26 it stopped “bouncing back” as you put it. The reason I’m responding to your post is I think I hit another metabolism slowdown in the past year.

@1stRosie: I have nothing helpful to say, just that this is very depressing news to me. I’m 24.
Fat land, here I come.

My metabolism really slowed shortly after college (~age 23).

Probably around 26 or 27. I’m fighting this right now, and it’s so disappointing because I used to eat whatever I wanted and be basically sedentary outside of work and I had no problem staying thin. Now? I’m eating better than I ever have and working out, and I’m fighting tooth and nail to get rid of this pouch. 🙁

I look back on pictures of myself as a teenager and in my early twenties (when I thought I was fat) and am amazed at how skinny I was…especially compared to now 🙁

25-26 and took a nosedive at 30. I also used to able to eat whatever I wanted and rarely worked out.
I’m 35 now and have to work out at least three times a week just to maintain.

Sigh, around 25. I’m only 28 now and work twice as hard to maintain my current weight than I did just a few years ago.
But then you have my 33 year old sister that pretty much eats nothing but fast food and frozen pizza and maintains her size 2 figure with zero exercise. So, hey, maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones! :p

I noticed my metabolism came to a hault at 27 and a half. I was doing 30 Day Shred prior to that for the wedding, but gave myself a vacation after the wedding. And then it all came apart. I started working out again and I increased the intensity significantly. I joined a work out program similar to Cross Fit and run regularly now. My body also started craving healthier meals. I guess to keep up with my new activity level. So it has all snowballed since then in a great way.
I definitely feel and see a difference with my body and that keeps me motivated to keep going. I am a goal oriented person so I set long term and short term goals for myself. My current short term goal is to run a half marathon in 1 hr 50 minutes. My long term goal is to be in the best shape ever when I turn the big 3-0.

I’ll be 29 in a couple of months and it hasn’t slowed down yet. I’m hoping and praying that I take after my dad, his didn’t slow down until around 45.

Don’t worry, as long as u eat right and work out, it should be fine. I am turning 31 in 2 weeks and I still pretty much feel the same. I can’t eat as much as before though without getting too full
