Hmmm, is it odd that I have only ever seen these in May for Memorial Day?  Guessing it’s the way Americans do it instead?

We do them for Nov 11th over here too. I normally get mine around now, and wear it for a couple of weeks. They do sell thme earlier, but my birthday is the end of October, and I don’t like wearing a poppy on my birthday.

Incidentally, i Was due on Remebrance Day, which is why I was named Poppy!

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

Wow, that’s so much better than what we do in the US.

I normally get one on Nov 1st – and then get through at least 3 by Nov 11th, I’ve yet to find a way to make them stay on properly. I’m away at the moment though, so won’t get one until I get back to the UK just before Remembrance Day this year.

@AB Bride:  March around and brag about how great the US is, I think.  Or rather, celebrate all the killing we’ve done.  This will rub people the wrong way, I’m sure, but Veteran’s Day has always seemed to me to be about blustering about how “great” we are, rather than celebrating those that died and the loss those that did not die feel.
