Christmas Day. Always and forever Christmas Day.

Why? Uh, it’s Christmas. That’s how you’re supposed to do it. 😛 In all seriousness though, that’s how we did it as kids, and that’s how I want to do it as adults. I want it to be this way for my future kids, also. That’s where all the anticipation is at! 🙂

That said… this year, DH and I will probably open a couple gifts in private on Christmas Eve… we’re having family over, and we got each other more than what we got everyone else and don’t want any weirdness or jealousy so we’ll be holding back from them a little bit.

We open some on Christmas Eve at my grandmothers with all my side of the family (aunts, uncles, etc) and tehn Christmas morning FH and I open each others gifts and then go to my parents for Christmas presents, then we go to his parents the next day for gifts with his parents, then we go to his aunt’s for gifts with his side of the family on New Years Eve. 🙂

A combination of multiple days.  We’ve always been able to open at least one on Christmas Eve.  Now, we do most of the gift’s with my immediate family on Christmas Eve and DH’s on Christmas day.  Sometimes DH and I will do gifts before Christmas if there is something large and we don’t want to have to bring it back and forth.  Ditto with my sister.  Secret Santa gifts are opened before Christmas.

I have a relative who will on occassion give a gift to open on Jan 6 to recognize the Christmas Eve that’s traditional in our family.

Growing up in our family we always opened them on Christmas Day and we still do. However, we would always get together with extended family on Christmas Eve and also exchanged gifts with them on that day.

Now that FI and I are together we have many gift opening days! This year it sounds like gifts with us, his mom, brother, and sister will be exchanged on the 23rd. Then on Christmas Eve will probably not exchange gifts with anyone this year…but maybe some of my friends. Christmas Day will be spent primarily with my immediate family and FI where we will open gifts that morning. That evening we will go to FI’s cousin’s house and usually someone there gives us gifts too. Then…(yes there’s more) a few days after Christmas we will get together with FI’s Dad and his wife to exchange gifts. Add in there me seeing additional friends/family to exchange gifts with…and there is a whole lot of gift giving/opening going on! It is going to be a busy time!

@kandykane1:  Christmas Eve we open presents with my dad’s side of the family, Christmas Day with just my immediate family, Christmas Night with mom’s side of the family and DH’s family gets squeezed in somewhere because they’re all nurses so we have to work around their schedule!  DH and I usually exchange gifts early before the Christmas crazy-ness begins!

Christmas day. We don’t usually go anywhere for Christmas, it’s the only holiday of the year we don’t, so we take it easy. We open gifts in the morning, have brunch, nap/relax, and then have a nice dinner that evening.

@kandykane1:  As kids we always got to open ONE on Christmas eve (at night), then we got to open our stockings as soon as we got up…(which were mostly walnuts, candy, and an orange lol) and then the rest of our presents that morning when the parents were *ready*.

Now me and my SO will do ONE on Christmas eve and the rest the morning of. Then we’ll go see our families throughout the rest of the week/weekend and do it then.

Some years we go to his family’s Christmas Eve party where we open one as part of a secret santa exchange.

We open them on Christmas eve and save one for Christmas Day. That leaves Christmas day to see other family.

@kandykane1:  When I was younger, we always did presents from our out of town family on Christmas Eve, and the rest on Christmas morning. All of our presents were wrapped, except our gifts that came from Santa 😉

Now that I’m older and live with SO, we do our presents to each other Christmas Eve and we go over to our parents Christmas day.
