You need to take it off if you go in the tanning bed too! The lady there said certain beds can mess with the diamonds.
When I first got engaged, I used to take my e-ring off before I went to bed, because I would get scared that I would knock it against something when I was sleeping lol.
Now the only times I take my ring off is when I'm showering, putting on lotion, or doing anything where my hands will get dirty. I don't take my ring off when I wash my hands, because I work in healthcare so I wash my hands a billion times a day.
I wear mine everywhere but the gym. I do wear it in the shower, and to sleep. It gets soap scummy so I generally clean it with some ammonia and a gentle toothbrushing every week. I'm not concerned about hurting the metal because we picked 14K white gold for its resilience, and it gets replated with rhodium every year or two anyway. Nor am I concerned with banging the diamond against something since the halo acts as a bumper. I only take it off at the gym because it digs into my fingers when I lift. If I'm just using the treadmill or eliptical I won't take it off. I'm not particularly concerned with loosening prongs because I purposely asked for extra (a pear can be set with 3, but I have 6).
But, if I leave the country I leave it at home locked up.
I only take it off at the gym and at work -- I work in a kitchen and I can't cook with it on because I worry about it getting dirty or damaged as I'm pretty hard on my hands!
Just like almost everyone else said, I take mine off when I'm in the shower, deep cleaning (with chemicals, etc), working out, sleeping (i've fallen asleep with it on a few times and only wake up because my finger is in pain from the swelling!). I don't usually put it back onto until I've gotten ready for the day--like today, I really slept in late and haven't done a thing but have breakfast. I haven't put it back on yet.
What's the deal with taking it off when sleeping? Is it bad to sleep with it?
I normally never take mine off. Like, only to put cream on my hands.
Right now it is off though because I have a wiggly stone and my husband thought it might be prudent not to wear it, lest I loose it.
In any event, I normally don't take it off. I don't use any abrasive chemicals when I clean or anything, so I am not too worried about it.
Dont forget painting ladies. I am in the middle of a painting the fence project and always remember to take the ring off just a second before I take the paint lid off.
I hate taking my e-ring off but sometimes I just have to! Working as a nurse I gotta wash my hands a lot so that's when I take it off. Also when I put on lotion, shower and sleep!
Otherwise...that puppy's glued to my hand!!
