When do you typically do a registry?

I wouldn’t bother doing it in advance. You never know where you’re going to live or what you’ll actually need. And I don’t know how long stores let you have a registry up. That might be a consideration.

Not until about a month or two before the shower. Even then stuff gets discontinued or out of stock and you have to re-do it. I would wait until 2016 to start.

I wasn’t going to do one, but basically the minute people received the invitations I started getting questions about where I was registered.

LadyBlackheart:  Our wedding isn’t for another 16 months, but we’ve started our Amazon universal registry. This will be our only registry. We’re also referring friends and family to the registry for birthday and Christmas gifts since everyone says we’re impossible to shop for (true lol).

I think a year out is too early. We registered about four months before our wedding and we had a bunch of stuff get discontinued so we had to take stuff off the list and add stuff. I suggest getting one started a few weeks before shower invites go out or if you don’t have a shower, a few weeks before your wedding invites go out.

We did ours about a month ago (7 months before the wedding) but that’s mostly because my FI is working in another state over the summer and we though it should be done before he got back.  Realistically though, I doubt many people will buy anything until a month or two before the wedding.

I wouldn’t do it until shortly before your shower. So many things get discontinued or out of stock otherwise.

A year out is too far in advance imo.  Only because stores tend to change merchandise seasonal and some things you registered for might not be available when it’s actually time for your bridal shower and wedding (my bridal shower was 2 months or so before my wedding).  It is a pia to go to the store on multiple occasions just to revise your list… speaking from experience.  And I made my list like 2 months before my bridal shower.
