While we are here then… what do you suggest we bring? Or was this just a rant type post?

Our city did not have any information about marriage licenses on their website, so I looked it up on the MA state website.  We brought everything.  They did not want to see a thing.  Not even an ID from either of us.  All they cared about were the $50 we had to pay for the license.  True story.

@AprilJo2011: Same here!! We were trying to track down birth certificates because the county had no information on their website. Then they didn’t even ask for our driver’s licenses.

@MrsSawyer: It varies by state, and certainly by country, so she would probably not know the requirements for you. Just a little reminder to help the happy couples and registry workers both maintain their sanity. πŸ™‚

@calico61979:  I feel your pain.  lol  I used to do DMV and I’d get the same thing, including people yelling at me that I couldn’t finish their work because THEY hadn’t brought what was needed.  πŸ˜›

We checked out our county’s site prior to heading in and they were very simple and clear in listing what we needed.  Our county even allowed filling out the application electronically!  We just had to show our documents and sign when we got there.  πŸ˜›

It’s definitely a good wake-up call about the necessity of knowing where your important documents are and whether everything is current.

DH and I planned ahead and had everything we needed when we went to get our marriage license, but a few years back DH let his passport expire without renewing it, and needed to go through the long application process again before he could visit me at school in the UK. We then discovered that his parents had lost his birth certificate!

When should we go apply for our license?  What do we need for it?

@AprilJo2011: Same here! We were in and out in about 15 minutes. Two thumbs up for MA.
