I take it off when I'm doing heavy cleaning - like yesterday I was using a paint remover to get glue off some vases and didn't want it to get in contact with the diamonds.
Also when I have too much salt ;)
I take it off quite often: shower, sleep, putting on make up, cleaning (whenever I use alot of products,) cooking (if I'm touching meat alot,) & gym. But although I take it off, I have never once forgot to put it back on :)
What helps me is when I take it off I only leave it one of two places, so in the morning its part of my routine to put my ring on, its like shower, brush teeth, put on ring, etc. I found that making things part of a routine is a really helpful way never to forget to do something.
AnnieAA you make me envious with your fabulous ring memory.
To clarify about heavy cleaning- I wear gloves whenever I clean stuff (like the toilets, etc) so I just keep my ring on under it. Not putting my beautiful ring at risk!
I take my e-ring off as soon as I get home from work and put it in it's lil' bed until the morning. The rock just freaks me out. Also, I'm left handed so, I just feel like it gets banged up a lot.
I have probably only taken my wedding band off once since the wedding. I love it :) :)
I take it off=I lose it. I don't even worry when I clean toilets and stuff b/c i really make sure I don't touch any of it! Even if it was part of my routine, i'd still lose it at some point. More than likely, my cats would go "ooooo shiny" and flick it somewhere faster than I coudl blink an eye. My mom is the same exact way about her rings and was always very insistent that nothing can hurt a diamond ring. My jeweler said as long as I don't deal with mercury we're ok. I also wear 3 bands, so taking it off is kind of a pain to make sure the diamonds don't knock each other on accident.
My husband takes his off a lot though, and it weirds me out. Sometimes I grab it off the counter and hide it in my pocket and go "where's your ring?!" and watch him go "hmm it was right here"
It DEFINITELY comes off when I use the diamond polishing solution at work. It would RUIN the diamonds, but I don't really count that...that's like, 2 hours every other week .
I take them off for riding my motorcycle and swimming in the ocean. I've lost a number of rings on the bike (something about clutching and wind seems to take them right off) and I have an irrational fear of losing things in the ocean, so home it stays...
@ejs4y8: Ahh! my husband does that to me when I take off my ring before bed, in the morning, or when I do the dishes. He always acts so innocent when I know he has it. It drives me nuts!
I take my rings off rarely--if I'm doing something super messy like making turkey burgers or painting our dining room. I'm afraid if I take it off often, I'll lose it, so I keep it on pretty much all of the time.
@ ejs4y8: OMG, My husband is always taking his ring off and leaving it places. He says that he has a couple of "safe places" (the kitchen counter?) for it, but he'll take it off and then leave it there. More than once, I've taken his ring to point out that his hiding spots aren't as "safe" as he thinks.
I take mine off when I'm cleaning, making something sticky, messy or gooey, or dealing with food dyes. I don't really fancy a stained ring!
I used to take it off while sleeping until I forgot to wear it to work one day and one of my coworkers was wanting me to show off my ring. Whoops!
I take my engagement ring off when I'm in the shower, or when I would bathe a dog at my old job. I have this nightmare of the soap and water making it slip off without me noticing and it going down the drain. So I set it in my jewelry box until I get out.
I've taken it off a couple times while cooking meatballs or breading chicken. But thats it.
@Latte and Jessie, it's so mean! I hope it works at some point. But I'm GOING to teach him not to leave it on the bathroom counter like that! I mean, we have heating vents in the floor! His slips off when it's wet (when i post a recap when i get some pics I'll explain how he lost it on our honeymoon...water plus volleyball equals lost ring) because he's so paranoid now.
I very rarely take my ring off. Not for sleeping, cleaning, showering...nothing. i take it off if I put lotion or make tortillas or meatloaf. Even then, sometimes I don't. I'd rather do a quick cleaning sith some toothpaste and toothbrush. Thats about it. I didn't even take it off when we went tubing down the river!
Ejs4y8 - That is an evil thing to do to your hubby! LOL I say this because once, I was making tortillas and set my ring down on the counter closest to the fridge. For some reason, my oldest son came and picke di tup to look at it. I told him to put it down before he "lost" it. I was turned perpendicular so I wasn't paying close attention. Apparently FI went to grab something out of the fridge, saw my ring there and thought it would be funny to take it. I noticed it gone, called my son back and both of us were freaking out bc he knew he had set it right back where it was but yet the ring was not there or anything around it! FI had gone off to another part of the house and walked in on us frantically looking for the ring. Of course, he laughed and took the ring out of his pocket. Pure evil I tell you! LOL
I used to take it off for cleaning, showering, sleeping...pretty much anything but going to work and hanging out on the weekend. But then I started reading how EVERYONE seems to leave theirs on all the time! So now...I'm attempting to wear mine all the time...with the exception of cleaning.
I knew I was a follower at heart. :)
The only time i take my ring off is when i'm handling raw meat or i have to. x-rays and stuff like that!
i just like putting it on again every morning. makes it feel new! and i have an unnatural fear that it's going to go down the drain so i take it off every time i shower or wash the dishes.
I also take it off pretty much when I get home from work. I change out of my work clothes and take off all of my jewelry once I'm not going out anywhere. It's fun to store my ring in the jewelry case that FH proposed to me with..each morning I get to see it sitting in it's beautiful black velvet case, and I get to put it on! I'll continue the same routine with my diamond wedding band, but will probably buy a 2nd plain band to wear out and about on the weekends when I'm doing things I wouldn't wear my diamonds for.
I take mine off for showering, sleeping, the gym, and cooking messy food. There are too many details and crevases on mine.
I hate taking it off though :(
It seems like I take mine off a lot! I take it off when sleeping, working out, for cleaning, and making food that is really messy! I store it in it's bed (aka box) while sleeping, and working out. I hate having my hands swell with rings on, so that is why I take it off when I work out. I have a routine in every morning that consists of me getting ready, and then putting on my jewelry, so the ring goes on then!
I am notorious for losing rings/jewelry so it's definitely in my best interest to keep it on all the time. There was a definite transition period- I was used to taking off my old rings whenever I got my hands wet, put on lotion, took a shower, etc. But now that I'm used to it, I feel much safer with it on my finger than left somewhere else.
Now that I am married, I take off my e-ring all the time but the wedding band stays put!
I never take mine off unless I'm using some kind of harsh cleaners or something, or if we're going camping/canoeing/hiking. Otherwise I just think I'll lose it!
I DETEST taking my ring off. Before we got engaged I never had anything on that finger ever, and so now that there's been something on it for about a year I feel completely naked taking it off.
Plus, I love the way my hand sparkles. ;)
I am such a bad bride. I hardly ever wear mine :( Mine is a halo and the stock size is just a little bit too big so it slides all over and I'm afraid to get it resized because with halos I hear the stones are more likely to come loose. I hardly ever wear it to bed becase my rock has ripped my sleep pants, the sheets and my face one too many times!
I take mine off when I go swimming or I'm in the shower. I just place it back in the ring box it came in so I don't have to worry about losing it!
I take mine off when I lift weights and wear in on a chain around my neck. I haven't thought about swimming -- i wonder if its safe to wear on a chain around my neck whilst swimming? I definitely don't trust the gym lockers!
I seem to always be taking my e-ring off; to workout, before showering, to sleep, before washing dishes or clothing, and even at work when it gets on my nerves from hitting the keyboard while I'm typing!
These are all the reasons why I am wearing only one ring (before and after the wedding) and that ring is a simple anniversary band.
I take mine off for working out, heavy cleaning, and sometimes to shower. The ring is very old. It belonged to his great-grandmother. I've already cracked it at the gym and lost a small diamond out of it, so I had to take it to a jeweler for repair. I'm much more careful now!
I don't have an e-ring yet, but I do have a "declaration of love" ring that has a large, high set garnet. If this ring is any indication, I'll probably be babying an e-ring and taking it off a lot! For the shower, cleaning, gardening, cooking, sleeping, swimming, etc. Part of the issue is that I'm left-handed.
I have my ring now
and take it off a lot less than I thought I would. I thought I would want to protect it but more than anything I don't want to LOSE it! I sleep in it even though I know that can loosen the prongs and the pave setting, just because I fret about its safety when its not on my finger. Besides, FI and I are long distance, so I like looking at it as I fall asleep, as cheesy as that might sound!
I do take it off before getting in the shower and leave it off until I'm done with lotion, hair products, makeup, etc. I just don't think all those creams and chemicals that I use are good for it, though I do leave it on when I wash my hands with regular soap.
I never take my ring off, and it ends up getting yucky and cloudy due to the crap that gets lodged under the diamond. But I just go get it cleaned every once in a while and it looks brand new again. I can't stand taking it off. I feel like something is missing when I don't have it on.

I am one of those girls who NEVER takes it off . I tried taking it off to sleep and shower but kept losing/forgetting it so on it stays! (more cleaning, for me, is better than a lost ring.) Thought I'd poll my fellow bees and see what you all do- and if you have any tips!
