Go shopping with your local BM now. I think about 6 months to a year in advance is good for ordering BM dresses to allow for them to arrive and then possibly be altered. Ask her to try on the styles you are considering and take photos to show the other girls.
I was told at least six months as well. We are all going to the store today so that they can get measured and pay for them. My wedding isn't until October 6th. I would have them order asap if I were you. Good luck!
You should check out your supplier's time line. I ordered Alfred Angelo dresses, which take about four months to arrive. I asked my girls to order five months in advance at the latest so there'd be time for alterations. To be honest, usually alterations on a bridesmaid dress are fairly simple and don't take too long.

I have the dress picked out I want my bridesmaids to wear. My wedding is September 29th but I am just wondering when it would be ideal for them to get fitted for a dress? I am living in Minnesota and all but one of my bridesmaid's is in California. The one that isn't lives here in Minnesota. She is kind of heavier set so I'm thinking I want to make sure she is able to get it and fit in it and then see if California store would have it available. It's kind of a stressful situation and not exactly sure how to handle it. Any suggestions?
