I think you can do it either way - it's up to you guys. But we did ours after the dinner and cake cutting. Both ways were options from our DJ - do what is easier for you guys. Guests can wait, they are there for you!
Do it whenever you think is easier! Are you having a groom/mother dance also? Because then the guests would be waiting 3 songs! But still 3 songs is not a long wait!!!!!
I am doing the first dance before and the father/daughter and mother/son dance after dinner to start off the dancing!
We are saving the dancing for after dinner. We want to get the most out of our party time, and some guests may not be able to stay very long due to it being an evening wedding. I think you should do what you and your FI think is best for your event.
You can do it whenever you want! I would do it before the main dancing though. We entered and did our first dance, then had dinner and did the father/daughter dance after that.
We are doing it like @naangel55 did but it is really up to you for the most part :)

We're doing ALL dancing after dinner. It is not going to stand in the way of me and our delicious food! :-) FI and I will dance after dinner, followed by our combined mother/son stepfather/stepdaughter dance.

So, silly question...when does one do the Father/Daughter dance?
Is it directly after our first dance? Or after dinner?
I have to ask...we hired a professional to come sing, and he needs to know what time to show up. It would seem SO much easier if we do it before dinner, but I don't want to make everyone wait.
We'll have apps, and the latest we would open up the buffet would be 6:45.
