I was invited to a shower for a wedding that is less than six weeks away, but haven’t received a wedding invitation. I have seen the couple a few times and there was no mention of wedding invitations or anything like that. I thought it was supposed to be eight weeks in advance with six being the absolute latest. When is too late to invite someone?

I think 6 weeks is an accepted timeline as far as a deadline goes. Sure someone might miss that a bit, things happens, life happens, but in general ya gotta wonder if you were B listed when you get them in a shorter span of time.
I’m wondering if you may have been invited to the shower but not the wedding. Is that what you are thinking?

@guitargirl: I’d say not later than 5 weeks out. I wanted to say no later than 6, but stuff happens. After that, people begin to think they aren’t invited (I am experiencing this right now- my friend asked for my address to send an invite, and I havent received it- wedding in exactly 5 weeks- I’m thinking she has changed her mind, because she mentioned over a month ago that she was sending them “soon”)

6 weeks seems wayyyy too short notice, especially if guests need to get a hotel or flight.
I sent STD’s 6 months in advance and invites 3 months in advance.
Maybe yours got lost in the mail? Happens all the time.

Around here, 4 weeks is the latest they need to be sent out, with about 6-8 weeks being early.

Between 6-8 weeks is considered proper. Any earlier and people may forget to respond. Any later and people will not be able to plan accordingly.
In your situation, call the bride — very possible your invite could have gotten lost. It happens…

6 weeks is the standard, but some send out invitations as late as 4 weeks. Remember that if they mailed them at exactly 6 weeks, you may not get it until 5 days later… 5 weeks and 2 days before the event.

6-8 weeks typically.
the wedding that we attended over the weekend, we got the invitation for 6 weeks in advance. my Fiance, friend of the groom, got an email before we received the invitation that we needed to make our hotel reservation before X date or we would not get the rate.
for my wedding, we are sending our invitations out 2 weeks before the hotel reservation deadline. all the information is on our website since we sent the Save-The-Date Cards. however, i don’t think anyone looked at our website.

I found out that invitations haven’t been mailed yet- 5.5 weeks til the wedding. I rsvp’d two weeks ago to a wedding after theirs, so I am a little surprised. We will see.
