- Wedding: September 2011
I just wanted to mention to folks who were DIYing their punch, mixed drinks, etc in big pitchers…
We recently had a family wedding and my aunt made tons of gallon jugs of punch (that side of the family doesn’t drink alcohol so this was the one beverage for everyone) and to keep it nice and chilled the froze the containers then took them to the reception space the night before the thaw out.
Well…problem 1 was they didn’t completely thaw. And so it took an ice pick and some muscle finally get the pieces to melt.
But then problem 2- Ice expands when it freezes so when it thawed we actually had much less than we thought. We ran out of punch early in the night and ended up buying every sprite in the vending machine down the hall. My aunt was pouring her snapple from that morning into the punch. It was absurd. Don’t run out- thirsty guests are not happy guests!
So yeah… give it time to thaw… and keep in mind that frozen volume does not accurately indicate thawed volume. =)
