Most rsvps are due 3-4 weeks before the wedding. Invites are sent out at 6-8 weeks. This allows you to track down anyone who "forgets" to reply and then tally the numbers for your caterer, etc.
I'd give yourself the most amount of time possible, because people will invariably miss the deadline and you'll need time to hunt them down and get an answer. I'd ask them to return by 4/10 at the latest. Good luck!
I would ask for the response three weeks before, since you are sending out the invites kinda late.
It kind of depends on when your vendors need final head counts by. If your caterer, for example, needs a head count two weeks out, then I would make the deadline three weeks out. That would give you an extra week to call people who don't send them back.

I’m a little lost!
Okay so I’m getting my invitations out later than I had planned. They’ll be going out 03/15/2010, my wedding is 04/24/2010. What should I make the RSVP by date? Mind you everyone we are inviting is from CA were we are having the wedding and those who are not already know and have made travel arrangements.
