My wedding is 10 months away, and I’ve already registered. I figured people could use the registry for Christmas and birthdays as well. We may have to replace things on our registry that get discontinued, but that’s fine with me.

It’s perfectly fine not to register for china! I wasn’t planning on it, but ended up registering for casual china (because we have a few plates that are college leftovers, and then my dishes from my 1st marriage that I really want to get rid of and start anew). We plan on using the casual china for our everyday dishes.

if you register too early some things might become discontinued…you should register 7-9 months before your wedding…so i think if you do it next week you should be fine! and you don’t have to register for anything you don’t want to! it’s YOUR wedding!

I would wait until after the invites go out.  That’s when we got a lot of questions about where we were registered (we didn’t have a shower).  We didn’t register for china, if you aren’t going to use them, don’t register for them!  My dad gave me a set of his china, plus we might get my husband’s mother’s eventually so we really don’t need it.

Register before you start grad school.  You won’t have time after.  ::grin:: (One grad student to another)

I would say that it really isnt necessary to register until your shower invites go out. No one is going to buy anything off your registry until the shower rolls around and then after that people most likely wont be buying things until the weeks leading up to the wedding. If you register too early things might be discontinued or go offline and only be in stores. Also, we have changed our registry (online) so many times up until just a couple of weeks ago. I still could change things if I wanted to!!

You just need to before shower invites go out.  We went 6 months in advance and did have some things go out of stock.  It happens.
