I am getting married on 27 August 2010 and my venue need final numbers 4 weeks before (as thats when i have to pay) but how soon before that should i ask for RSVP's from the guests?  and then, how long before needing the RSVP's should I mail the invites?  Help please!!

Wow, they really need numbers 4 weeks before your date?  That seems a bit crazy, especially since so much changes right before your wedding date (with people getting sick, etc..).  You aren't having a destination wedding, right?  If not, then you can send them out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.  6 normally would be fine if it is local but since you need numbers in 4 weeks before your date, you may want to send them out 8 weeks before and ask for an RSVP 5 or 6 weeks before your wedding so that gives you time to track down any non-responders.

Our final headcount was due 5 days before the wedding, just as an FYI.  We asked for an RSVP one month before our wedding date and were still waiting to hear back from one or two people right before we had to submit our headcount.

OUrs is due the week of the wedding too. This may sound crazy but you might make them due early July if you think a lot of people will irresponsibliy forget to RSVP!!

Wow 4 weeks is very early to need final numbers by.  We had people cancelling the day before! If you need it to them by July 27th I would ask for the reply by mid July and mail out the invitation in early June.

I had my RSVPs due back a month before, but if your location requires 4 weeks before, do 5.

give yourself two weeks before the final deadline to track down people who don't rsvp.  so I would say mail your invites out 9 to 8 weeks before the wedding.  That will give people about 2 to 3 weeks to respond, and will give you two weeks to track down the non-responders before your venue's deadline of four weeks.

Your venue does seem a little odd.  Most need final counts 14 to 10 days before.  I'd see if they can change it!

Wow, that's early for your venue to need to know! If anything you can always lowball them on the number, considering guests may drop out last minute, or will be hard to track down. Then if you go over that original number you can always add more later to the payment.
