When should we set up our registry?

@FutureMrsKenward:  I had this same question this weekend. Our wedding day is June 7, 2014 and we registered at Target on Saturday. I thought it was early, but I had a few people ask already (not sure if it was just being nice, or they really wanted to know), anyway, we went ahead and did it. I know that some things won’t be available, but that just gives us a good reason to update 🙂

I figured some people like to get shopping out of the way and our shower will be in April or May.

Now! Bring on the scanners Laughing

I’m getting married in June. I set up our wedding website and registry this summer, around 1yr out. Some of FI’s relatives were already asking where we were registered! We’ve already gotten some gifts and I can see that some others have been purchased. Some people like to have first pick, I guess!

@FutureMrsKenward:  mine’s been set up for months – i keep changing it, but I keep telling myself I’ll stop once people start buying.  I told my mom it doubles as our Christmas wishlist this year 🙂

I know at the place we registered we also get 10% anything we put on the registry from now until 1 year after the wedding – so if we want something, add it to the registry and buy it for ourselves 🙂

We waited a while. We just registered in late September. We didn’t want to have to go through everything again for all the stuff that the store no longer carries or has been replaced by a new color, texture, etc. If you go now then definitely check it out everyone once in a while to see what possibly needs to be replaced with it’s new equal.

According to The Knot, 8 months before. I know that because I hit exactly 8 months to go yesterday and they sent me an e-mail 😛

We already registered for a bunch of things because we had our engagement party last month and a lot of FI’s parent’s friends wanted to get us gifts for that as well. But really, you might as well start working on it ASAP, it’s fun! You’ll need to update it, but some stores will be able to tell you which things they keep year round and which are seasonal.

@FutureMrsKenward:  a lot of places will give a completion discount which is what this is technically.  That way if you don’t get all your place settings etc you can finish it off with gift money (in theory).

The girl at the store also said they’re seeing a lot more couples registering for big items and people buying as a group.  She said that Dyson Vacums and large screen TV’s are 2 of the most popular items right now.

I set mine up about 5 months before the wedding- I was afraid of too many items getting discontinued

I started setting ours up online a couple months back. I kept it set to private for a while just so I could add and remove things when I changed my mind, without anyone seeing. I highly doubt anyone is searching for our registry this far out but I still like to have it done just in case!
